ABS Issue - Battery changed

Hi all,

Just to see if others have had this issue. I removed the GPS lead from my battery and since that time the ABS light has been flashing.

Any ideas? Should I reset it all again and see what happens? I'm not too bothered about ABS normally, but I nearly got knocked off at 70mph and the back wheel locked up when I slammed on the anchors so I want to get her sorted out.

Let me know your thoughts people...
 
I need to change my GS's battery in a few days. How does one resert the ABS? Is it just a case of pulling a fuse?

Mine's an 02 non servo.

Hazard awareness? I'm an IAM member training to be an observer, so i'd like to think I know what I'm doing. The guy just pulled out in front of me, classic situation and one which I'm not looking to replicate. I wasn't speeding (I had my 10% margin for overtaking), had planned out the manouvere, indicated, positioned myself in the carriageway to be visible to other drivers and selected the appropriate gear.

He hadn't bothered to even indicate and didn't check his mirrors... I try not to use the brakes too much with onward observation, but in this situation the ABS would have helped.

But cheers for the reply, good to know we're all in this together.

Heck - you didn't crash, maybe you got a fright because they got too close for comfort, but you didn't damage yourself or the bike - just a minor flat spot on the rear tyre.

Hazard anticipation, scanning etc - are covered early chapters of roadcraft, but also covered in HTBAAM, but do not allow acceleration sense to prevent you from being confident in use of the brakes. Practice braking hard from high speed -i.e. how to apply the brakes properly, deal with weight shift and how to hold on to the bike. But your rear wheel will lock up - especially if you apply the brakes while it is off the ground :D

Good on you for volunteering to help out in the IAM - gets a bit of flack but their volunteer observers do their best to help others improve.

You'll probably find the cause was not the brake but changing down too quick to aid stoppin this will lock the back wheel no probs and ABS plays no part at all, especially if the road is wet.

His ABS isn't working - the ABS error lights were flashing (in the first post in this thread).
