ABS lights flashing

Yesterday the ABS lights kept flashing every time I started off, and continued to flash until I pressed the ABS light whereupon one stayed on for 5-6 minutes and then they started flashing again. As I did 1090 miles on the bike yesterday this became very annoying!
There seemed to be a slight hesitancy on turning the key before the bike fired up and I am guessing this is why the lights are flashing but I have checked all obvious connections, battery is about 10 months old and has been on Optimate for previous few days. Could it be a sticking solenoid or relay? :nenau
Advice gratefully received! :thumb2

Lights sequence sounds like the correct operation if there's a fault and you cancel it. The manual should be able to confirm. Does sound like a battery type problem.

"Obvious battery connections" does include the battery themselves, just in case you haven't :o

probably battery related

but try a reset as follows before you shell out for a new battery

1) Turn ignition off.
2) Remove the seat.
3) Locate the diagnostics plug behind the battery.
(It's for diagnostics so is not connected to anything).
4) Connect an end of wire to the brown/blue wire pin .
5) Clip the other end firmly to a good earth point, preferably the battery.
6) Turn ignition on. Note that the two ABS lights continue flashing alternately.
7) Hold ABS button down for 8 seconds.
The bottom ABS light should stay on, the top one off.
Release the ABS button.
8) If the reset is successful, both ABS lights come on.

If you didn't count to 8 or your ground is not good, then the top ABS light stays off. Start again and/or try pressing the ABS button before turning ignition on.

First thing to check is whether you have knocked the righthand handgaurd and it's pressing on the brake level.

Thanks for your thoughts folks - checked everything and did diagnostic check - all fine. Bike then started ok, two clunks and ABS lights went out. Great! Next time I started it, no clunks and ABS lights flashing again

Probabaly needs a new starter motor.

Exactly the same problem with my 1100 - and a new battery went in last week too.

Ok Here I go again. (every time I put tech advice on here I regret it coz I normaly get abused by Steptoe)

ABS 2 (the type fitted to 1100gs and pre linked brake servo 1150s) will not run if the battery voltage drops below (11.4v I THINK don't flame me if I'm wrong it's not even that important.
If the battery is weak or the engine takes more curent to start it it is possible and likely that the abs will fail. If after getting this failure you later get the abs working normally you can be (almost entirely) sure it was the low voltage abs cut out becausethat is the only fault on abs2 that is not logged by the non volatile memory in the abs unit.

If it self clears its the battery voltage dropping during cranking.
This can be because the battery is in poor condition, or it can happen to a perfect battery if there are too many consumers (aux lights, gps, heated stuff etc etc) running preventing the battery from getting fuly charged.

OK I'm done.

Kick my dog and call me a c*nt.

That's the biggest load of bollocks I've ever heard :D. It's the starter motor I tell you, it's knackered and causing the battery drain and the ABS system doesn't have enough power to 'power' up. I think.

Hi,

I have a similar problem with mine (just recently) and it is not as persistent as Rolf's problem. My battery is brand new (one week old) and my starter waschecked back in November.
Could it be the one of the sensors giving wrong info :eek (gap clearance just about to get outside the range)?

Cheers
