Hi

I have a 1996 1100. At very low speeds (up to 15 mph) the abs on my front wheel makes a repetitive 'click ping' sound. The noise is similar to the one made when first setting off but it is repeated. if I pull the front brake it clicks on and off as if the abs is cutting in.

Once I excelerate above 15 mph all is normal. The abs lights are behaving normally with no indication of a fault.

The bike rides fine once over 15mph.

Any thoughts?

Many thanks
D

Is the ABS sensor in contact with the disc? It shouldn't be, but........

What he said.

There is a sticker on the fork leg giving you the measurement. Should be in the handbook as well, along with the feeler blades in the toolkit, only thing they dont do is do it for you!

No, sensor gap is fine - first thing I thought and checked, mechanic had a quick look and said same, he also said if it was a faulty sensor then a fault would come up on the abs lights but all seems normal.

Thanks anyway.

It's a mystery :nenau

Hi
Yes only on the front brake.

Just had another look and check of distance - a definite gap can be seen, using the 3 gauges supplied the small one slides freely the middle one has a little resistance and the big one fits but needs a push, so I'm guessing that's about right.

I did notice that one of the fins on the abs ring has snapped off - would that make a difference?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Most probably, the ring and the sensor are an important part of the ABS control. The control unit is probably picking up an erroneous signal from you front wheel which is preventing it from working correctly at slow speeds.

Okay thanks.

Will probably give the bike a good overhaul over the winter so will change ring then, in the meantime I will run as is - trip to the Stella will test it :eek

Cheers

Update for anyone interested:

It was the tooth missing on the ABS ring fitted a second hand one tonight and all is well.

I suspect it was the tyre fitter - took it to a car place :blast oh well you live and learn.

Something to look out for.

I think with the tooth missing the pulse would be longer and the abs thinks ur loking up the wheel then it will sort its self out until it gets to the gap again

I am probably taking shit

but some will come along shorty and tell how it all works
