abs or not

I did. No ABS, ESA, ASC or tyre pressure monitors. Just useful stuff like heated grips and luggage. About a grand less than similar bikes with all the extras in the same dealer.
I specifically wanted that spec though. My K75 used to have ABS until I removed it, never had it otherwise and it's not important to me.

Managed for long enough without. Wouldn't bother me either way.
If its a good bit cheaper....go for it.

yes i would my last 1200 was non abs and non servo, just very good brakes.

if on the otherhand it was going to be a keeper :augie id rather have ABS in the long term, its just nice to know its there on cold dark wet nights :rob

Until it failed one wet, cold and windy night when you had to find the limits of adhesion at the worst possible time.

I wouldn't buy a modern performance road bike (GS included) unless it had ABS, unless it was something very special which I only rode once in a blue moon on dry roads. To me it's a safety no brainer and especially beneficial in the wet.

Current 09 doesn't have ABS in fact I have never had a bike with ABS and don't particularly ever want it. Last bike I fell off due to front wheel lock was my 125 thirty years ago.

Personally I wouldn't touch a BMW bike with ABS, far too unreliable. DAMHIK

I've also never owned a vehicle with ABS and don't want to, like Aircon, unnecessary and just something else to go wrong. (Luddite in the making!)

But a little orange warning light would have told you the ABS had conked out so you'd probably be riding more cautiously in those conditions anyway. I did when my warning light popped up one very very wet day.

I wouldn't buy a BMW without abs. I have plenty of other bikes without.

having never had an abs bike, yes I would buy one without it
my car has it and I cant recall the last time I had to brake hard enough to activate it
I think it was during last winters snow

Regardless of what some say on here, a used (late model) BMW without ABS will be harder to sell and worth less money. I never had ABS before I bought my GS, but its good to have and I'd not want to be without it. My answer is, don't buy it unless its A LOT cheaper and then expect it to stick when you want to sell it on.

Depends on whether you have faith in your own ability or not:augie A bit like stabilisers on a push bike. Heated grips on the other hand - couldn't be without them:)

I got my first car with ABS in 1989 and never not had it since. I would not buy a bike without ABS if ABS was an option.

The only time ABS makes the slightest bit of difference is when you actually need it. A bit like a helmet and leathers really.

Not really. Based on those principles, you'd wear a crash helmet in a car. Do you? Thought not. ABS is an unnecessary complexity on a motorcycle that provides a false sense of security. Biking should be about skills, concentration and focus not about driving aids.

Would not buy a bike without ABS.

Would be very happy not to ever use it in an emergency situation.

As a learning aid it has helped me appreciate how much grip there is on a wet road.

my last 3 GSs have had ABS. the last 2 of those have been bought new, specced by me with ABS. might as well have it as not, can't do any harm unless it's that abortion of a system BMW put on the 11**.

i'd be quite happy to have a 1200 without though. still own 3 other bikes with no ABS, so why wouldn't i ride one more without? :nenau

much rather have an 11** without.

1200GSA yes

I collect bikes, never seem to wanna sell the old ones when a new one comes along, so, I have a few without ABS, but after many miles on GS & GSA I still seem to lock the back wheel on sometimes the slightest incline or bit of dust, gravel or sand I can find, & the abs has done its job a lot quicker than I could even notice, on these big heavy & sometimes loaded bikes I think it's a MUST..!
