Apologies for posting in the wrong place, I'm sure someone will move it to the correct place - thanx in advance. I've got a 1200RT, 4 years old, 22,000 miles FBMWSH & last week the brakes failed. Long story short, I have been told I need a new ABS unit at £1600. Obviously I'm not impressed. Has anyone heard of any other failures or am I just unlucky? Thanx guys.

If you search on here for servo abs problems you will find loads of posts.

Thanx Dave., I've done just that & am horrified. It looks to me like BMW accept that their Servo equipped bikes were near Death Traps. I will be calling Mototech in the morning.

Yes mine went on my 06 GS after around 10k miles, they quoted me £1200 I think but fortunately I had taken out the extended warranty. I would try for a goodwill gesture through your dealer.

mine went on 56 plate GS in March 09,Coopers in sunderland replaced the unit BMW toke care of all the costs, excellent Service from the boys at Coopers in West Boldon, otherwise it would have been back to a Varadero......

Cheers guys. Pidcocks in Nottingham have suggested that they may speak to BMW on my behalf. I'll keep you posted. Love your site BTW, one of the best of all the bike sites. 10 out of 10.

Success. BMW are footing the bill. I've got to pay about £50.00 for the brake fluid & diagnostics, but given the circumstances I can live with this. Incidentally, I am advised that the new pump is a modified version of the original & Pidcocks have never heard of any of the new version failing. I also asked about the fuel module & was advised that this has now been modified & improved.......
Thanx for all your help guys.
