Hi Folks,
anyone got details of the electrical work required for removing the ABS system from a R1200GS 2005. Was wondering if I fitted a non ABS loom to the bike would I get away with that. Mechanical side of the job is no problem whatsoever. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated. Thanks for now.

Why?

I'm not sure if you can easily do it as I believe the electrical system uses a canbus system where the same wire sends a variety of information, Can you not just turn it off when you wish to disarm it? There may be an occasion when you need it and it may be a selling point when you come to get rid.

abs ectomy r1200gs

I've been bumming around this particular minefield for some time now as stuck with a bike with abs that doesn't work.. I am kind of coming to a similar realisation that a new loom, ex-non abs bike (but same other options eg heated grips etc), and then re setting of the ECU by a friendly service agent so it will recognise it new self. However you would still lose speedo and brake lights as these systems run off the abs set up. Brake lights not a big problem as you could fit in line pressure or mechanical switches, whatever... I'm going to look into the speedo thing next before deciding if it's worth taking the plunge. Of course to keep it all legal would require officially re-annointing the vehicle as a non abs machine. On that last point it would pay to check whether the registration denotes the bike to be abs in the first place, which by a lucky twist of fate my bike never was anyway. Weird.

I remember having seen how to proceed on the ADVrider forum, basically the same than shown for the 1100 on the link above.
the issue is to re-wire the speedo signal wich normally goes to the ABS module, when it goes to ZFE module on the non-ABS version.
but it could be done.
if I'm right the guy on advrider.com said that he had to pay a visit to the dealer to have a reprog in order to have the full thing fixed. just have a look...:type

Why do you want to remove it? *Would disabling it work for you instead? * You can disconnect the front wheel speed sensor and this does the job but also takes out traction control. * The wire from the front speed sensor joins the main loom of the bike near the handlebars on the rhs of the bike. Disconnect this plug and job done and easy to plug back together too.*

You could always snip the wires and wire a switch in to get a proper switchable abs solution.*

I disconnect this plug do for off roading and it's also how the BMW *off road school do it.*

Just a thought.*
