just got back from the dragon rally but on the way back the abs light on my 1999 GS1100 came on . First the top light came on then went out then the bottom light came on then both started flashing . The abs switch on the dash has always been a bit iffy.
so i will try a new switch and if that fails is it a big job to remove the ABS and is it costly
off for a hot shower now as it pissed down all weekend and was a cold wet ride home and the ale is wearing off
cheers dean :nenau

Dont jump the gun Dean. It needs testing to see what the fault is first. Mine didnt work and when i had it tested it was the rear sensor. New sensor (£70) all done!

someone must have removed there ABS

It's as simple as it's written = remove abs.

No wiring alterations needed on a non servo unit. Not sure if you need new brake hoses for the 1100 models (i've removed a couple from 1100 models but not for a couple of years), i know you can reuse the 1150 hoses by re-jigging the front splitter.

I think it would be easier to find the fault and mend it. :nenau
People assume because the system is complex it must be the most expensive parts that have failed, 90% of the time it is a wheel speed sensor. :comfort

Are you just wanting to take off the abs?

The answer most recent one I had just needed the rust removed from the from the abs rings

just thought that if i take it of it can,t go wrong never had abs on any of my other bikes so didnt think id miss it

Right Big Mac if your version of ABS "ABS II" fails it basically just switches off and leaves you full power brakes

It'll flash the ABS lights alternately and immediatley that happens Your ABS is off and you have normal brakes with you controlling the pressure with your hand and your foot end off

I thought it was unnecessary until I was admiring a well endowed young lady coming out of chapel up the coast one sunday morning

I was distracted a bit too long and IF I hadn't had my ABS I was under the 4 x 4 in front who had stopped in the middle of a clear street to let an old dear out of the petrol station

You can read the road but Damn ABS can help in that instance! :aidan

a good point well made think i will get it pluged in befor i start ripping it apart

Definatley check it first m8, i was about to take mine off after trying loads of tests but a full reset ( really easy to do ) and it's been fine since.......

and i do feel better knowing it's there :thumb2

jumped on the bike this morn to go to work pulled of the drive and the ABS worked fine think i will change the dodgey switch and see what happens :nenau

I think you will find its not the dodgy switch. Pressing the switch makes a contact. Its unlikely a fault would do this. good luck with your fault finding, Reading fault codes should be your first step, mine showed up a faulty front wheel speed sensor, easy.
