ABS Sensor Gone South?

A month or so ago I had a few issues with "brake failure" lights coming on intermittently. I'd removed the rear ABS sensor and wiped off a tiny bit of gunge in the hope that this was interfering with the readings (the speedo also failed when the warnign lights came on). This resolvd the problem for a while, but it has returned this weekend.

I've tried the same thing again but (not surprisingly and, all things considered, probably for the best) the ABS/speedo sensor was still squeaky clean. So either the sensor itself is giving up the ghost or there is something else astray. I'll take it over to have the diagnostic readout checked to see if that throws any light on it all.

Anyone had similar isues/problems?

(Incidentally, when this happens, I get unassisted braking - "residual braking"I think it's called - for a while BUT the servos kick in unpredictably. Slowing down for a roundabout on the way home, residual braking required a reasonable heave on the front brake lever. Servos then kicked in. Result: instant burst of very hard braking, nuts crushed on tank. Could be extremely dangerous if cornering even slightly at the time.

I've just had exactly the same problem. I have taken it back the dealer, thankfully under warranty. MIne is a 55 plate with 16K on the clock.

Under what circumstances does the "Brake Failure" light come on?. If I'm stuck in stop-start traffic (road works or waiting to board a ferry for example) I get the 4Hz red triangle of death and the brake failure warning. 50 miles of motorway to bring the battery back to full voltage seems to cure the symptoms, if not the problem. I've only had this two-up, when I only use the front brake, which runs the servo all the time the brake is applied. This is because reaching the footbrake is difficult with my long legs and a pillion on board. I have vague memories of the Austrian police giving up on R1150RTs due to braking problems so I wonder if we are having the same problem as tham.

Is the speedo still playing up, or is it just the brakes?

The bikes ABS system is very sensitive to battery/alternator line voltage. Perhaps your battery is in need of replacement, not uncommon on the 1200 series of bikes.

Does anyone have a GS-911 in your area?

Help anyone!
