the ABS on my 1150GS isnt working and Im told I need a new actuator,if so,can anyone recommend where to get one and what I should be paying,as Ive been told they are pretty damned expensive!
Thanks for any advice,
Norman[

How do you know it's 100% the "actuator"?

I have changed a alternator belt on a 1150 GSA '02, and after that, the abs did not work. I really don't understand why, since all I did was back the tank a little so that I could loosen the alternator. A reset fixed it :)

What type of ABS is on your 1150?
Did you try a reset yet?
Did you get any fault codes read off your bike?

You don't say if you're talking about an ABS only unit or the later servo abs unit ?

About 2 years ago I had an abs fault on my k1200lt, it has abs 2 non servo brakes, the abs lights were flashing alternately, took it to Ocean and they did the diagnostic check which cost me and said it needed a replacement abs unit, as I rode it down the ramp from the workshop the abs did the normal clunk/click and has been ok till a couple of months ago when it faulted again. Went to Ocean and they wanted £80 to do the diagnostic check :blast. Anyway I found this http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30942&highlight=ABS+FAULT+RESET when i tested with a metre at the plug I had the 7 pulses which says the abs unit is faulty but have carried out the reset procedure as in the link just last week and it has reset, and the abs has worked just fine for the last 180 miles. Hope this helps, good luck.
There was a similar abs reset procedure for 1150/1100 GS and RT published in the May BMW Club Journal.

abs

When i bought the bike the dealer said the abs had been disconnected so i enquired of the mechanic and he said the actuator and that the bulbs had been taken out or they flash all the time, now the last abs equipped bike i had was a K100RS but that was never any trouble.i know its recently been serviced so maybe the belt has been changed, how do i check, thanks for your time lads,
Norman

I think first you need to find out which type of abs you have, do you have a manual for your bike cause you should be able to tell from that. Have you looked at the link in my previous post? There are some pics in the posts in that link and a description of the abs 2 unit, plugs etc, I know they are for k1200lt's but if you locate your abs unit you may be able to figure out if you have a abs 2 unit or a later type, alternatively someone else may be along soon who knows more than me about the 1150GS.

As Steptoe asked, does your bike have servo brakes? Its important to know so advice given relates to your type of ABS.
