This might be a stupid question but I have a 2004 ABS with the engine running the brakes are good but with the engine off the rear brake does not seem to work well is this right

I think the key difference is that the bike has pumps and complexity where as the car uses air and vacuum differences in a relatively simple mechanical assistance device, the effect of no engine is the same on both car and bike but I would argue that a servo system fault is more likely with BMW's bike version given its various bits and pieces

Many people have disconnected the servo and run the bikes happily. They lose the ABS and the levers need more force but they seem happy enough.
