Its long and complicated and but the short is what makes power might not be what feels the best. A weak mixture might feel snatchy but could be the optimum for power output. When you ritchen the mixture you can take an engine off the power so it feels smother and to your seat of the pants feels like it makes more power but in reality it doesn't. Agree with the lean emissions or not the fact is that BMW have built the engine to run as good as it can within the components that are in the engine. Putting more fuel in by itself wont necessarily make any more power without changing other components or settings of the engine. For example you might find that changing the ignition timing along with the extra fuel could release extra power. Like I said its complicated and what works for one engine might not work for another. Pretty sure there will be guys on here who have dyno experience who can explain it better than me but thats the basics of it.
