Hi all,

Hope someone can help. I've found the 12v accessory socket on my '09 1200GS just behind the oil cooler, but there's another (unused and uncapped) one just behind the horn (RHS under the beak sat on the bike). Anyone know hat this is and if it can be used as a 12v takeoff?

Cheers.

Not 100% sure where the BMW optional extra front auxiliary socket is usually wired in - the one by the oil cooler is there for the BMW GPS system - but Garmins and TomToms end up using it too.

Bear in mind that any CANBUS wired outlets are limited to 5A so to get a switched outlet for more then this you need to wire in a relay and take a feed from the battery

I thought the one you're referring to was some sort of interface for plugging in to to read fault codes and stuff :nenau

Dunno what it is but I'm assuming it's powered. Can't imagine it's a diagnostic reader socket poked away under there? Hopefully someone knows what it is or I'll have to get the meter out.....:)

I didn't bother a BMW wired one and fitted one to the bars direct to the battery (via a fuse, of course) so I can run stuff with the engine off (phone, iPod charger) and charge the bike on my optimate. Cost me £4.50 and 30 mins tinkering time:thumb2

Thanks guys,
Ran the bike down to the dealer and it turns out it is a diagnostic socket (as Big Nick suggested :blast). Anyway, have now put a 12v cigar lighter onto a bracket on the dash with a fuse straight to the battery. I put a small inline (hidden) switch in the feed just to stop anyone messing around with it when it's unattended……
