Am i correct in saying that the power to the accessory socket on the nearside of the bike stays live for a short time after the ignition is turned off, then goes off?

If thats the case can an optimate be plugged into it to condition the battery?

If I plug in said optimate will that effect the autocom I hard wired into the back of the accessory socket?

Thanks x3 :thumb These 1200's are strange beasts compared to the 1150 ;)

on my bmw charger it says that it has to be pluged in within 15mins of the bike ignition being switched off...

that works..but haven't got owt else wired into back of socket.

That'd do the job, but on the 1150 the optimate just plugs into the accessory socket already there....I was wondering if its the same on the 1200 ;)

Totally different to earlier BMWs
Canbus shuts it down after 15 mins................timed out, that's yer lot

You'll have to wire a optimate connector to the battery direct

We have been through all this before - a few times;

You now have a BMW where the battery is easily accessible; take off the seat and attach your optimate crocodile clips - no need to disconnect the battery; it takes perhaps 10 seconds longrer than plugging in to the socket. Of course you have to master the technique of putting back the seat afterwards!

No

See above.

You can't plug your Optimate in . Or rather you can, but it won't work.

No problem and you are quite right.

PS Optimate flying lead or a simple (fused) socket direct to the battery is the way to go.

i picked my gs up last week at s.l.m and was told it was only for battery charging as its can bus related and only for the bmw trickle charger......well thats what i was told:nenau

Two lots of bowlocks there from the dealer :(

Happily ran an autocom from mine and happily used a £20 trickle charger through it as well.

No problems at all. Autocom was on a 90 degree powerlet.

OK, that is the Autocom powereing bit. No surprises there, the 'Canbus' aux socket is simply acting as a 'Power out' point, just like normal.

Who makes the 'Power in' £20 trickle charger that works (ie. charges the bike's battery) through the aux 'Canbus' socket, please?

Oh Ye of little faith. Accrington Stanley has revealed all.

I got mine from Motobins about 5 years ago, this looks very similar:

KELLER MAINTENANCE BATTERY CHARGER MADE IN GERMANY. NOW WITH CROCODILE CLIPS AND AUXILIARY PLUG ADAPTERS IN THE KIT. 2 STAGE CHARGING LIGHT, RED CHARGING & GREEN CHARGED. AS WITH THE MORE EXPENSIVE BMW #99870 CHARGER THIS UNIT CAN BE LEFT ON THE MACHINE TO MAINTAIN THE CHARGE. (220-240VOLTS SUPPLY ONLY)

Twenty notes, too.

Punters now have a choice to charge:

Motobins £20 - Thro' the aux Canbus socket

Optimate £38ish - Not thro' the aux Canbus socket

BuMW 'smart' bling charger £58,000,000 - Thro' the aux Canbus socket

Surprised nobody has found this before. Buy fifty in and bang 'em out for £25 on Fleabay.
