Me and the Fruitcake went down today- went via the Cadora Cafe in Tarbert for breakfast then took the Carradale road.

Went to the Cadenheads whusky shop- which has moved to a swanky new shop on the main drag. Didnae stay to buy as some wank stick in a suit was blowing off to the shopkeeper and was ripping oor knitting..

Bombed back up the main road for coffee and cake in Crinan then hame

It was dry actually - I had bought new waterprrof gloves and waterproof overmitts but never used either. We took the east road back up and I recomend giving this a wide berth. Spectacular scenary but single track and loads of loose gravel

One thing that struck m about the area was the amount of wealth that must have been there as some of the older houses are huge and many still have immaculately kept gardens..... oh and did I mention a great Curry House ;-)

I think that the rich merchants of Glasgow used to have lavish summer homes down there - especially out by Machrihanish (spelling?). I guess the housing is quite cheap there now, though.

One hotel-owner told me that most of their trade came from sales and service personnel, as they don't actually have much in the way of tourism as they are off the beaten track.

Machrihanish has a wonderful golf course, actually I think they have built more since I last played there many years ago. The first hole on the original course where you drive across the beach to the fairway regularly makes the top opening hole in Britain when they make up a composite course.
