I'm normally in the T4 Camper when I'm on Orkney, but this time I'll be on the Adventure Cub.

Anyone have a good recommendation for somewhere to stay, anywhere on 'mainland' Orkney.
Hotel or B&B .... Booking.com doesn't come up with much!

Thanks in advance

Micky

Deliberately placed in the Beakchat and Bollox for a wider viewing :D

have you tried using Google maps? They aggregate all of the main booking sites as well as those of the hotels. Lots of hotels won't use b**king.com due to their commissions, late payments and hacking by fraudsters.

also, ring the local tourist office as they might carry a directory of local B&Bs not on booking sites

Good one Wessie :thumby:
Yay .... I know lots of places that won't use b**king.com for that reason.

We stayed at the Ferry Inn Stromness. Accommodation was fine, but basic. Food was excellent - wife had a plate of longustines the size of lobsters cheaper than my steak!

I’ve stayed in the youth hostel in Kirkwall, single room was good and cheap but they get booked up in the summer, best plan as far ahead as possible

And pods on Sanday

Edit to add, I found a caravan near Kirkwall a while back on Airbnb, worth looking on it especially for more than one night

Used to stay there in my diving days on the German High Seas Fleet - it was fine but that was in the '80s.

Out of good taste I will spare you the photos :D

As a little aside there used to be an Ariel Square Four in a shop window of the High Street Stromness.

There's a couple on the west coast, and one up north, above Twatt, looking at the map.

Orkney? I’ve seen the video Micky. You’ll roll off the bike at the first T junction, just tie a pillow round each arm to cushion the fall

Those camping pods - perfect for Hobbits!
That’s where I stayed in my motorhome the last time I was up there. Apart from a couple in a tent I was the only one there. Had a quick walk into town and hired this little beauty for two days so I could explore a bit. :thumb2

"Not a bad day" as they say on Lewis.
