ACF-50 OR FS-365

I spray FS365 on my bike before every ride during the winter, then thoroughly rinse with cold water when I get back, followed by a blast with the air blaster dryer, then it goes back into the dehumidified garage until the next ride. Then every couple of weeks, or unless it's really dirty, I'll give it a proper wash.:thumb

I think it is Nutty by name, Nutty by nature

FS365 is water soluble and will wash off even if you just ride through rain or puddles. ACF50 is the thing to use if don't intend to wash the bike regularly. When applying it with a spray gun like in your garage please use a respirator, the stuff sticks to everything including the inside of your lungs. Please refer to the MSDS sheet.

I use both, ACF 50 to prep the bike up for winter, and then after a salt infested ride will give it a spray over with FS365. It's water soluble but neutralises salt, so get's washed off if you apply it before. I use 365 after washing and drying the bike, that's probably a bit OTT, but it makes the black motor look nice and clean :)

ACF50 is the daddy though, with some FS365 to supplement it.

By definition a salt is already neutral, so what do Scotoil mean by "neutralising salt". If they mean the treatment inhibits electrolytic corrosion then ACF-50 does the same job without all the excess water and mess.

However they both need a better spray system than a trigger spray, pump up bottle or aerosol can.

When salt dissolves in water it breaks down into its ions which is a slightly acidic solution depending on the concentration. By contrast a soap is alkaline based and can just as acid cause corrosion to form. A tip is not to let a soap solution dry on what you are washing and rinse properly after a wash (or use Dove :D). ASF50 needs to be applied to a dry surface while with FS365 you can spray it straight on to a wet surface.

Only ever used FS365 on mine and ridden in all weathers yet no rust :D

Same here .... liberal use if FS365 before and after winter, quick spray over with Putoline 1001 (kind of similar to WD40) every time I wash it.

103,000 + miles, four full winters use .... absolutely no corrosion (F800GS)

:beerjug:

I tried FS, it's water based, I live in Scotland, it sometimes isn't raining, the roads are very occasionally dry. FS just gets washed off. If you use it then you still have to wash your bike and re-treat after each trip. I commute on my bike. I'm not going to wash it when I get to work each day and then again each time I get home.

ACF, solvent based, creeps into every crevice, displaces water and dries to a ultra thin film if use correctly. Designed for nice aluminium aircraft in marine environments. That should do fine then for my nice aluminium, magnesium and steel BMW. Hopefully my new alloy and plastic Yammy as well.

I'll report back next spring, That will be about June time.

Agreeing with most of the above. ACF50 is a once-a-year job and applied carefully keeping it off the brakes. FS365 can be added when the bike is wet after a wash or a wet ride and doesn't matter if some of it gets on the brakes.

From my experience I found when using acf50 and the f365 together the f365 seems to kind of emulsify the acf50

Both.
Oct/ Nov clean bike, apply ACF50 when dry. Spray FS365 on top of all the accumulated filth throughout the winter probably once a week.
By the following April bike looks like it has been dragged out of a canal but after a good clean looks fine underneath. Actually it takes about three sessions to get it properly clean. Then use FS365 through till Oct/Nov and start all over again.
Works for me but then I hate cleaning bikes and I don't have time to clean throughout the winter. I did take some before and after photos earlier this year, you wouldn't think its the same bike.

I ride all year and use FS365 - wash the bike at least one a week and then spray and brush on the 365 to places that I think are most vulnerable, if the bike gets a good covering of salt then I will try hose it down as soon as it as cooled down after a ride.

You know those shiny racks you can get for the bathroom with suckers to stick them to the tiles? They all end up going rusty eventually... But not if you wipe them with a cloth sprayed with a bit of ACF 50

:)

I've used FS365 for several years and not had any problem with corrosion, but I've decided to try ACF-50 this year mainly so I don't have to clean the bike so often. Cotswold Motorrad picked my GSA up yesterday and it's come back today clean and protected for the winter. Well worth the £50 it cost. :thumb
