Allihies again.. but off to Asia soon....
Hi again gang,

Looking at the maps on my PC I see some roads are missing. Can I add the missing bits?

For example when I end up on the west coast of ireland can I ride/drive all the roads I know and love and then update them into my map software. That way I could share them all with you lot....

Cheers

I won't address the add roads question because I know of no way to do that. However the roads you are looking for may be there but not shown due to the MapSource options you have set. Check these two options out to see if you have them set for the most detail.

Edit-Preferences-Display and move the bar to the far right.

View- Show GPS map detail

Cheers Bill,

I'd figured those two options out but there are still bits missing. I won't even start telling you about how backward ireland is.

Seems a shame that you can't fill in the missing bits.

The only way I know of doing this would be to drive all the routes with the "tracklog" turned on. Then download it onto your PC. It will, however, only be shown on that particular Mapsource document. You would have to copy it to all subsequent documents.
I haven't tried to load a tracklog onto the GPSR from the PC. So I don't know if you could share it in any useful way.

Another option is to create your own maps. Is done by using utilities as GPSU. Scan a Ordenance map, open in GPSU which have a calibration procedure, save it and then it can be downloaded into the GPS.

GPSU available at: www.gpsu.co.uk

There are other programs available as well, (Touratech Quo Vadis?) but I'm familiar with GPSU and it work...

Yosi,

Thanks fior that sounds very interesting. So what it means is I can map out my bit of west ireland and save it to a mapping system which will work with my GPS. I know that this is what you said in your post I'm just confirming.
Seems a shame you can't update a map. In my corner of Belgium there are little 100 meter bits of roads missing which are there. But the autorouting goes a different way because of it. Bad luck for me as I won't be able to update it.

In ireland though I will be very happy to be able to sort out my own maps so my wife can get around parts she does not know as well as me.

Maps

At least it works with my Garmin's II+ and V

No idea if compatible with other's

On the V, sometimes the thinghy refuses to read the map, next day is happy...Why? Not a clue...
