Additional Lights - Recomendation?

I would definately recommend the visionx lights though, bought a few from the MCN show last weekend, simply brilliant, pictures to follow.

Oh when I get back into gainful employment they are most definitely on my list. Wonky gave me a sneak preview a few months back and I was sold :thumb2

Quite fancy a Giant Loop Great Basin bag also but again I need the dosh :blast :tears

Just checked my HID setup, im on 14k miles and the part of the lense abve the bulb is starting to frost a little..... Im going to ask an MOT mate tomorrow wether it's effect the mot, if it would then im removing the HID and looking for aux lights..... bummer cus i love that laser beam. Its a 30W one from HID50.

hmmm that's a deal breaker for me. I don't want to have to keep refitting them these bikeviz lights because they are not actually motorcycle lights but just led lights dressed up for motorcycle use.

I bought cheap lights from Hong Kong that failed ultimately due to water ingress. That said they were designed for use inside a car and so I knew what I was getting into. These days I'm busy with other stuff so just want to fit lights once and not have to worry about them failing at inopportune moments

I drilled the hand guards with a flat wood bit (can’t remember the size) then set them in place with an epoxy adhesive. Ran the wires through heat shrink, behind the guards, and then cable tied them to the existing cabling that runs into the “tank area”. An in-line fuse, just in case, and into the canbus.
I have had them on this winter and have not had a problem, yet anyway.

REGARDING HID BURNING THE LENSE REFLECTORS

Well i dropped into my local Kwak dealer who does MOTs and servicing and they said a blackenned area on the reflector would certainly not fail the MOT. Its the throw of the beam that dictates a pass or fail.... and by that we mean is it dazzling oncoming traffic, in this case, it wouldnt be... so..... i'm a lot less worried about this now.

tHE REGS FOR REJECTION OF AN mot ARE HERE...... woops capitals..... i'm not concerned now at all...

phew..

Following that link and reading carefully, if the examiners glass is half-empty, he could quite legitimately fail your headlamp on point 3 "Check the condition and security of the headlamp" quoting the reason for failure as "a headlamp missing or so damaged or deteriorated that its function is impaired".

He'd be a bit of a barstard to do so, but I've met them in the past :augie

That rational shouldnt wash as there is no law dictating the strength or distance of throw of the lamp, as long as the beam does not rise above a certain level it cannot be failed. Contition of the headlamp basically means is it secure, not falling apart or likely to cause injury or damage if used.

Firstly, sorry for using your brilliant photos, but maybe getting brackets made up that fit on the forks may work as they are upside down forks (800gs only)
Placed low enough to miss the beak but high enough to miss most water hazards (not that it matters as they are waterproof)
They are almost protected against falls and they would face in the direction of your front wheel (brilliant for offroading)
I guess you could even use really strong cable ties with the supplied bracket to help not dammage the forks

i am talking about the lights that have been photoshopped onto the forks
(poor job done, sorry):blast

So decided not to go for the position on the forks, instead got a couple of brackets from b&q and fixed just above the indicators, out of the way and secure as ever. yet to power them as i am waiting on my Centech unit. better pics to follow.

Now just stick to aux lights... HID aux main beam and 55W 'fog light' used as a daylighter ie. on all the time. Works just fine :thumb:beerjug:

hi wat are those fog lamps you having ? and wat bracket it use to mount with the fog lamp?

I also have the Vision X lights on the Rugged Roads bracket. The 'wings' on the bracket are a little long so I cut them shorter with a hacksaw.

I found that the lamps stayed on for a while after the ignition is turned off, so I have a switch in the circuit that turns them both off.

I also have a HID50 in the high beam lamp but had to remove the HID50 in the low beam lamp for the reason that others have highlighted. (Burning reflector) At some stage I might put a 35W HID in the low beam, but to be honest, with the Vision X I don't really need need it.

I like the fact that the Vision X come on instantly, with no warm up time. Not so with the HID50 High Beam where there is a few seconds delay as the lamp comes up to full power. The low wattage on the Vision X is also a bonus, as I have heated clothing, autocom, gps etc. It was minus 8 in this pic so I needed the heat!

This is a pic I happened to have on the computer. If a close up would be useful, let me know.
