When turning steering handle clamps 180 degrees in order to adjust the steering handle forward the mirrors comes in conflict with the screen when turning maximum right and left. To adjust the mirrors also the armature needs to be adjusted. I cannot see how this should bee done. I am afraid that if I open the armature switch housing to many things will come loose.

Slide up the rubber boot on the bottom of the mirror stalk where it's screwed into the switch housing. That gives you access to two nuts - one which clamps the mirror stalk and the other which locks it. Loosen those, set the mirror stalk to the desired angle and tighten the nut and locknut to 22 Nm.

Why was the locking nut going left on both sides? And why is the stalk threaded normaly on both sides?

You rpfoile says you currently own a R1200GS and this is the R1200GS section, so, assumign it is a R1200GS, then the mirrors are not attcahed the switchgear at all, they attach to the clutch and brake perches.

If your levers also feel like they are pointing down too far, then release the perch clamps and set the levers a buit higher - this will also move the mirrors furtehr back as the perch rotates around the handebar.

I have no idea why BMUU do anything though ...

Yes I have a 1200GS adv. I wonted to rotate the mirror arms backwards so that it shouldn’t get in conflict with the wind shield. To do this I loosened two small screws which are tightening a U-clamp. But to be able to rotate the mirror arms backwards I also needed to rotate the armature. The question is how is this done? Next question is have anyone done this job in reality. I damaged both mirrors because the person giving the advise about simply loosening the lock nut did not tell that they are left hand threaded on both sides. If there should be any logic in this world it should be either right hand on both sides or left hand on only the left side.

I think you should probably step away from the tools and get someone who knows what they're doing to adjust the mirrors for you........:blast

Hi Hooken,

I think we are probably struggling with the word "armature". To move the mirrors as you wish the clamps holding the clutch and brake master cylinders are loosened and the these rotated to suit. No need to move anything, maybe the handguards?

The switchgear itself is fixed to the handlebars and does not rotate to any other position. Hope that helps?

Perhaps you can find a better translation than "armature"?

Thanks Magwych for your god and polite advises. I will make a new try tomorrow. I suppose that you have a 1200GS so that you know what you are talking about. My English is not 100% and the word “armature” is probably not correct. The hand-guards are easy to adjust. I still find it strange that the locking nut is left hand on both sides. On many other bikes they are right hand threaded on both sides which must be the cheapest solution. On Yamaha they have got one of each which makes sense technically.

You will find that the mirror assembly has both a left and right had thread on each side. This allows the mirror to be forced forward or backwards without breaking since one of the two threads will loosen. The stalk has a lefthand thread and the fitting it goes Into connection cts to the clamp with a right hand thread. A perfect solution to the problem.

The mirrors are now fitted. Thank you very much for your help.

Lessons learned:
1/ I wonted to turn the mirror arm rearwards but on the right side the throttle cable prevented this. The throttle cable housing can not be rotated on the handlebar so one has to accept whats possible.
The handlebar must therefore be turned a little rearwards thus loosing a bit of the distance gained when rotating the clamps 180 degrees. Otherwise the mirror arm will hit the windshield when turning maximum.
2/ I still find it strange that in the instruction book they don’t say anything about that the locking nut is left-handed.
3/ It is very important that the handlebar is kept centered. A few millimeters makes a big difference.
4/ Two mirrors with nuts cost 150 euro.
