Decided to go for the 'stealth' look and remove some of the old stickers from my alloy ADV panniers and topbox before I stick on my new Humvee 'Euromap' ones........!

Some peel off real easy but others a a pure b*stard:blast

How do you get the old ADVrider.com stickers off as the residue and sticker base that is left is almost impossible to shift? I tried this a few months ago and didn't get very far with the nasty residue so I just stuck a new sticker over the top of the old one

A search suggests using a hair drier, heat gun, blow torch, hot water, WD40, pressure washer, acetate, petrol, peanut butter, razorblade, credit card and gravel rash all in no particular order.

What do you use to remove the toughest sticker from your alloy boxes?:nenau

Heat first then remove residue gum with WD40 - carburettor cleaner which is an acetone product I think is also good for shifting stuff.

Hot Air Gun and Brake Cleaner....................Simples....usually.

Excellent.......!:thumb

i'll give that a go......i'll try the plastic credit card to 'assist' in the removal of the residue as it shouldn't scratch my scratched and dented boxes anymore!

Girlfriends hair dryer always does the trick - make sure you get them good and hot before you peel them off

Peeling them off when warm is far easier than dealing with residue from ones already peeled off.

I know this sounds daft, but go and kick your 3 year old in the head, steal the rubber from their art box and try that on the residue......sometimes, a rubber will, er, rub it off :blast

(The glue can ball up and be picked off, IYSWIM)

Otherwise, any of the above list of solvents could work, depending on glue used. :thumb2

If in doubt, go to the source. I posed the question to my friend Garry who's a mod on Adv Rider.

He said...."seriously? hehehe, I have no clue. it is just a sticker.....".

HTH

should have sold them when you had chance :D:aidan

and if you really want to be anal about it, (Don't ask) fine wire wool, and a cloth with brasso on works wonders on ally panniers, so good that the finish comes close to the original, meaning that you only have to do the panels that are crappy. Try it on the underside to test to see what I mean

for fucks sake, just go to bloody maplins and stop arsing around, buy a can of sticker and adhesive remover, spray it on and they just fall of, useful for replacing stuck on antenna and rear view mirrors and general stuck on car trim.

The right tool for the right job, its only a couple of quid a can.

Tried that.

All the labels had peeled off the cans :blast

Nitromors......nitromors.........nitromors!

Ok, so the b*stard stickier than stuck ADV sticker has been removed completely and easily without any damage to the box using an old credit card and.................

NITROMORS:thumb

Now does anyone know how long it takes your fingerprints to grow back:blast

And then watch them corrode away

No evidence of it so far, first started doing it 2 years ago (I'm nearly though to the liner now BTW ;)).
If you leave them covered in shite then perhaps so, but the smooth finish discourages corrosion IMHO
