Mornin lads!,
On the verge of splashin out on a new(to me) bike and really fancy an adventure but being a short arse realistically, is it goin to be too high for me??? how much does the aftermarket low seat reduce the height? am i barkin up the wrong tree in even considering one......any help much appreciated??????????
Thanks,
Dockie.

Take one out for a blast, see what you think. All the weight disapears on the move but for shorter riders it might be a handful in town. But even if it is, you get used to it anyway. It's a handful in town and at low speed for any size rider.
Try the Dakar while your at the dealer. I did and bought one!

5ft 6ins.... 29 inch inside leg!!!!!!!!! Not exactly lanky!!!!!!!:D

No worries..you should be ok but there are things you could do to cope with the height.

MX boots tend to be a good idea....more rigid soles to pass the force to your toes better and keep yourself supprorted on the ground, plus many MX boots have thicker soles than other types anyway.

Low seat is a good option

Then you can use GS suspension rather than Adv units...that could be a cheap option as I'm sure some 1150 owner would do a straight swap if you wanted

And 17' alloys or spoked rather than 19"

Take a look at the area sections and find a local meet, then go along and have a sit on one ;)

Before you get a Virago, give the GS a try, You'll love it. The advice about the boot's is a good point. What might be cheaper than lowering the seat would be to source some seventy's footwear.

I am 5'7" and 30 inch inside leg. I have the adv low seat but am thinking of changing it to the standard as I believe I'd manage OK having tried a dealers machine.

I have dropped it because of being a short arse but pretty exceptional circumstances.

If I had a 29 inch leg I would consider a pair of the daytona M Star boots that have a built up heel

5ft 8ins 29 inch twigs
I have the low seat plus the shocks have sagged slightly,
pillions forget it
low 1st gear is a real boon in town and the crash bars help,
i've dropped mine a couple of times but they are quite easy
to pick up.
The Black ones are lighter and faster :P
