Adventure advice

First start would be to have a long read of the "Tell me about..........." thread in here. A warts and all discussion on the 1190's. That will give you a very good feel of what they are like to live with.

If it were me and purely down to looks though I'd be going with the 990 Dakar you posted the picture of :drool

Andres,

I'd appreciate your opinion of this 1190R for sale I'm interested in, please.

Is the seat high compared to a low seat on a GSA TC, do you know? :beerjug::beerjug::thumb:thumb

Ah, interesting, didn't know that, and explains why I can't find a later "Dakar" version

Have a chat with Darren or Andy

They had a 2012 990 Adventure in that blue sat in their car park last Saturday afternoon. It was parked outside amongst the used/Demo bikes so I'm not sure if it was a part exchange or a badly parked customer bike?

There were two guys inside picking up new 1290 R's. One came in on a 2013 R1200 GS but I'm not sure what the other guy was riding so it may have been his old bike?

I want one of these!!!!

What would I use it for though when my TC GSA can do everything????:nenau:nenau:nenau:nenau

"Want" that's the answer if it was "need" i'd say "why you have a TC GSA that can do everything...."..........

The link's not working young man but re seat height, the R is a bit higher than a GS but narrower (well the 'bench' seat I have, as opposed to the two piece seat) so the end effect is at 6ft I can flat foot on the R the same as I could on my old '05 GS

Thanks for the feedback, it's much appreciated!
I 'm nearly 6' but long back and shortish legs (for someone who's nearly 6') so it might work. [they're not that short]
I still don't know when I'd use it having the TC GSA but I thought it would be better for an Iceland trip than the GSA.
There again, I might just be talking out o my arse!

First post from my home laptop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm now unemployed!

I'm 5'10" with shortish legs. I can get the balls of my feet down with the stock 1190( seat, which is, in effect, a low seat with sod all padding. The 2 piece PP Ergo seat is much more comfy though and makes for a better distance to the footpads, especially set on high position.

I usually have it in "low" as i feel more secure. In short (ho ho) - It's a pretty tall bike. Noticeably taller than the 1190S (which is quite tall) and my old Hexhead GSA.

Well, I'm not a good one to ask about values etc 'cos, well, I'm crap at that sort of thing; plenty of others on here seem to have a good idea though...........but, to put it's price into context, mines a late '14 and came with a free 'travel pack' as part of a deal KTM were running at the time (as they always do at the end of a year). This included sump guard, heated grips & full bread bin luggage (I think that was all of it). Other stuff I added at purchase was supplied at cost as part of a deal with the dealer. I paid a smidge over £14k. Based on that £9k for yours seems a bit high but, like I said, what do I know........

It doesn't look like it's got many miles on it (nice and tidy) :nenau On a MY13 you won't get the fancy 'lean sensitive; TC and ABS (introduced MY14) and there's a question mark over how well the airbox seals right up to about MY16 (I think). I've modded mine as have others and my airbox is clean as a clean thing. Having said that I know people who have left theirs alone and their airbox is as clean as a clean thing.......................
Heated seats are nice (but not needed due to the hot rear pot) but everybody who has them says how comfy they are.

Er..............I can't think what else to say really......they are brilliant bikes and I love mine; three years down the line I still sit in the garage and just look at it not quite believing I've got such a cool bike :)

Oh, and congratulations on your new life of leisure ;) :beerjug:

Thanks for all the feedback it's much appreciated.

I should probably ask Nutty what he uses his GS and KTM for as my TC GSA does everything I want but I just fancy a big KTM. I don't know when I'd use it instead of the GSA (other than an Iceland trip that I fancy) but my 525EXC isn't getting used so I could trade up.

My "life of leisure" started when I finished last night but I'm actively looking for a new job but nothing yet!
I should look for a job like Arsey!

What, and become a self centred, opinionated 'flyer' with a fragile ego? Nah, don't do it it's not worth it :)

I had my '05 GS for ten years, longest I've ever owned a bike. It was great at most things and as a tool probably the best bike I've ever owned...............but...........that was how I viewed it, a tool. I got shot in the end 'cos I eventually realised that that indefineable 'character' thang was completely absent from the bike and I started loosing my biking mojo as a result for the first time ever.

Then I bought Katie and have never looked back. She's got character in spades. The ride is always engaging and fun. The handling is superb but keeps you on your toes (not as flattering to crap technique and mistakes as a GS) and the performance is, well, more than you'll ever need but totally addictive :D

I think if you compare one to a GS on a 'head' level the GS would win out but if you compare them on a 'heart' level with shits and giggles to the fore then Orange has a GS well and truly destroyed.

If you live anywhere near Edinburgh give me a shout and you can come sit on mine and see how it fits (1190R)

Thanks for the offer, much appreciated.
I'm down that way on Monday as my TC GSA has a service at Motorrad Central and I've got a Scrambler for the day.
