By accident I drove off with the front disc lock still on (stupid, I know) on my brand new ADV. I could not hold the big bastard upright so it fell to the right. When I took a closer look I saw a part of the crash bars looked strange. I compared it with another ADV and this bar peice is straight, not bended like mine is. But in the same time it lookes like a 04-model design change, because nothing else on the bars are bended. Can anyone else confirm this new design or is it a bended bar from my lock goof. I have a picture but don´t know how upload it.

Ryberg,

I asume that your bike only fell onto one side, that means the other side is undamaged. check the undamaged side to see what the bars look like before they hit tarmac.

Ryberg,

I know this is shutting the gate after the horse has bolted, but top tip :thumb; Try putting your disc lock on just behind your brake caliper, instead of in front like everyone normally does.

If you ride off with it on, you only go a very short distance before being notified what you've done, instead of a whole wheel rotation. You stand much more chance of catching the bike.

D'you guys have the curly cord reminders over there;

One end thru the disc lock & the other looped over the bar and onto your clutch/brake lever.

Having had two friends do what you've just done, I bought one straight away!

Why bother

I've been there and done that and decided I'd rather cough up the insurance excess than pay for the repairs if I did it again. Or buy and alarm / imobiliser that at least got an insurance discount.

Saying that I bought a lock plus chain that goes through to disc and I secure the other end to the engine bars. Too much chain etc to ignore, and it'll slow down any low life that try and lift the bike without removing the chain and lock.

I know someone who tried riding off with the disc-lock on and came off within a few feet. He thought that the front had stepped out because of some gravel on the car-park, so he picked the bike up and did it all again!

Crash bars.

Here's a couple of pics of crash bars, so you can see these off a Dec2003 model.

another

NOte that my bike has been dropped on the right hand side too, but it was more eased on it's side as I couldn't hold it after a big ice/gravel slide came to a stop...So, maybe if yours looks the same, mine's are knacked too :D

Thank´s for pics. How did you manage to upload them. When I press IMG button it asks for a http: adress. Why?

Attaching images

I don't use the img button, I go to the bottom grey "attach file" field and browse to the pics on my hard drive....easy peasy.
