Are they just a fashion statement or a worthwhile buy, if so why and any recommendations welcome.

I thought it might have been a new TV show featuring everyone's fav Charlie and Ewan

As for the crsh helmets

some have a wider field of view, or so I'm told... some say they can be very noisy... some folks wear ear plugs... erm...

you pay your money and take your chances...

When the Sun is low during the late/early part of the year, the peak is very useful at shading your eyes. It's the only reason i bought one! It made riding during that time of year a lot easier, not being blinded by the Sun continuously.
Now the Sun is rising again i'm back to wearing my normal Helmet.

Have you never heard of some black tape across the top of your visor....then again, I'm old school.....

I have an original Arai Tour X but I think it's a fraction undersize and when I changed the padding for some thinner ones it fits better but now it's not exactly comfy. However, it looked the part on the GS but did have a habit of catching the peak in the air flow under certain conditions leading to a sudden neck snap on the odd occasion.

I now have a Shoei Hornet which I took a bit more time getting the right size and it's peak is a bit more vented than the original Tour X.

However, trying to get my sunglasses on and off has made me think perhaps an internal drop down visor would be better than a peak? I do have another helmet from when I had the Ginetta, and that has a thicker shell, a double glazed flip front, an internal sun visor and a clip on breath guard. Damn heavy though and probably 20 years old or more by now?

Nope! Always had Helmets with drop down sun visors, or light changing inserts.

Don't seem to make a lot of sense...noisier with the peak etc. Peak may be handy for low sun but so is a drop down visor. Personally, I'd rather have a flip up lid.

One thing about 'adventure' helmets is that you have the option to use goggles, which might be desirable in dusty conditions. I have an Arai Tour X5 which I love the look of, even if I apparently look like a cock wearing it on the road. It is definitely not for motorway blasting as it is noisier than a non peaked lid. But then I also wear enduro boots... And the visor is great in the bright sunshine.

I like my Touratech Aventura with peak for the sun. I always think I lose some very far distant vision with darker lenses on visors or glasses.

And the wider aperture saves some strain on my dodgy neck. No problems with buffeting on Hexhead.

I always wear ear plugs.

Also the peak protects the visor in up position when off the bike.

I like red tape in the winter, and blue tape in the summer...

You can have all 3 these days; Flip up, Peak & sun visor.

In a Car the sun visor is much better at providing good vision when in direct view of the Sun than a decent pair of polarised sunglasses.

Bought a Schuberth E2. It was that or the C5 as they're basically same helmet I believe.
The E2 was £20 more so I thought I'd try it.
There's a couple of tiny benefits (awarded by the peak) with sun and rain (rain only when going very slow in town).
TBH I do quite like the "look"
The E2 seems slightly more affected by side winds but not much.
No real advantage either way in my personal experience, get the one with the best deal, or you like the look of....
