Being looking around for r1150gs's, have been made offer for my bike and adventure so curious,

is the adv much taller and is the seat solo only or will 2 people fit comfortably?

cheers, my worry is dont want pillion uncomfortable and making a tall bike unbalanced trying get on/off and stopped at lights

if the pillion keeps still you should be ok at lights/stopping etc , but the ADV is taller, lots of people shorten the height by replacing the OEM shocks with normal GS shocks (you need centre stand/side stand converted too i think)

the large seat is much more comfy for the pillion than the rider on the ADV seat

well 90% time be solo, just when touring my wife wants to be able tag along

can the gs seat be swopped over? or is it hander to get adv seat re covered to have a twin seat and lower option?

martin the very man, was just talking about you and crew with emmet today.

in fact i am buying an r850r this weekend for less than cost of a new gps.

will then shop around with 4k in hand for a bmw 1150 adventure and sell r850 when find one

leaving wife behind was great, but with stories from france and the pic's we took she wants to tag along

i am getting bike for 800 euro

then once find a nice adventure going for right money i will move it on

picking the 850 up this weekend

Personally I find the twin seat arrangement on the 'normal' GS to be more comfortable for both rider & pillion. But the fittings for both are easy to swap over.

Yes, but also need to change the rear rack, seat mounts and seat locking system.

well has bit eng corrosion on paint, but not as bad as some of the newer 1150gs bikes have seen needs service and good cleaning.


shocks may need be serviced but nice runner. bit of surging but this is probably me not being used to the shaft drive

has new front tyre, rear 50%, new brake disks but may need pads soon enough
but hey for the price i would make this alone by selling the panniers and wheels if broke it

At that price why dont you do it up then just cane it untill it breaks, IMO probably one of the most reliable of the oilheads made 1100/850 and reasonably comfortable . Even an arguement with a morrocan taxi on the 2007 dash didnt stop my old 1100R and its still runing around in Spain somewhere today , Nice colour too .

i had planned to do it up and if died halfway around europe just leav eit in a ditch and get taxi home hahahah

ya very nice bike, but after quick run i think the clutch is gone as it slipps in and out when riding at steady pace.

then call from mate this morning offered me 300 more than paid and he will fix it up and replace clutch

ill be honest i dont knwo what i want

kinda regretting selling the r850r as wont get anyhing for that money again. might just tell mate to use bike for next few weeks for his bike test but not selling it

gs are way too dear for what they are.
