Hi,

Has anyone altered the sidestand on an adventure to make it 'stand up' more?
Its a pig with a full tank of fuel to get upright.
Is there anything aftermarket that might help apart from a course in body building

Kind regards
Sam

Not an Adventure, but my 1150 has now got a lump of three-quarter inch plywood fastened underneath it for exactly the same reason! It's a bu99er when you've only got little legs!

i've done it but you can only buy the extension foot for the standard gs so you have to get handy with an angle grinder on the bottom of the adv foot as the standard gs has a smaller foot print. not a big deal only takes about 30mins to fit and decreases the lean angle quite a bit. if my memory serves me right i got it from wunderlicht.

NippyNorman does that sort of thing for the standard 1150GS but not the Adventure (see http://www.nippynormans.com/prodinfo.asp?number=NNP-SAR1150GS&variation=&aitem=55&mitem=104).

A quick look at the Max BMW parts fiches for the 1150GS and the Adv suggest that there is enough difference between the two to make life interesting for anyone trying to swap side stands between them, but someone might know if it is possible if you don't fancy taking a grinder to it... :nenau

You could always buy a Fat Foot (http://www.nippynormans.com/prodinfo.asp?number=FAT-BM106&variation=&aitem=5&mitem=6) from NippyNorman and use it as a pattern for an extension. Have your stand built up like a surgical shoe...

Or you could buy a pair of heels from a shoe bar, trim to have nice curves and screw them to the bottom in your stand.
£2 well spent.

An Ice Hockey puck, £1:00 from a sports shop. hard rubber, drill it and bolt it to the sidestand foot.

I've just sawn my stand in two and welded in a 20mm length of extra tube. Not that easy as have to re-make foot to avoid hitting the centre stand and exhaust. However, now it's done, am well pleased. Have messed about with bits of shoe etc before but looks crap.

Just one thing to consider, the side stand reating bolt and bush seem to wear, this increases lean. Easy to replace for £3.

I am sure i am not alone, but my adventure has 'rolled off' its side stand a couple of times when i first had it.
The angle of the stand when its out seems to be very shallow and does not seem to be as overcentre as the coventional Jap bikes.
Has anyone ground the stop away at all to allow the stand to open more than the what looks like 90 degree ?
Doing this will make the 'lean' angle even worse, but may stop the rat-bag moving off without you on a surface other than facing uphill.

thanks

Pomm, I have a similar problem, which is the opposite to the problems above.
My Adv is too upright, because I have smaller cast wheels, lowering the bike.
I have to be very choosy where I park, so I can get it to lean over.
I have considered geting an engineer to cut a piece out of it and then sleeve it to try and make it adjustable for when it goes back to standard wheels.

why not just swap it for the standard GS stand, it's a bit shorter.

i'm have thought someone would do you a swap, a GSA stand is a pretty good mod for the GS & the parts are interchangeable. well, the GSA stand certainly fits a GS anyway, though it does touch the mainstand. can't see why it wouldn't work the other way round.

has anyone tried it?

Cookie,
I have thought about doing a swap, but I will need to go back to standard ADV trim, hence my thoughts about an adjustable stand.
I have already fitted a gs centre stand.

You are not alone. I have a nice big scratch across my screen where it fell off the stand and against a wall under it's own steam, ticking over a bit cold slow and lumpy, on the slightest of forward slops on my drive. Nice...

Had the same problem with mine even changed the bush and bolt didn't make any difference.came up with this idea works a treat its 20mm thick not to sure about diameter had to file a little of back edge to clear the centre stand :thumb
