Advice about rejecting 1250GSA

But they need to be ,given the fuck ups they seem to repeat regularly .Such as new RTs being off the road for months a few years back ,GS fork issues and now the callipers being so shite that they’ve gone back to Brembo.

In over 20 years of owning KTMs, I never had one off the road and can count the number of recalls on one hand.

Other manufacturers may not be as good with warranty back up, but in my experience they don’t need to be.

Look at the units sold in comparison ( I think some where this has been pointed out before), other brands have similar issues and problems . I had 3 ktms , all wept oil at the rear pot , dealer said , two years later , oh well .
I first one was fixed , took 6 weeks , no loan bike , bike collection or apology and even tried to get me to pay towards it as he said , Looks like you have been track racing this ( I had not ) .
The issues I had with BM have always been delt with , quickly , with polite service and always a loaner or collection.
Makes me smile my mates Guzzi has spent more time at the dealers than the building itself , but he loves it (god knows why) :comfort:beerjug:

Oh to add the Hayes brakes are so much better than the Brembo , I was going to change once , but the calipers are still sat on my desk as , same as you presumed, they would be crap. They are not.

On other threads people with brand new bikes have said they were delivered with Brembos

Not on a GS, the only reported bike is a bike in Belgium which must have had Brembos fitted by the dealer. I have spoken to Bmw uk technical and they have categorically told me Brembos will not be fitted to,the GS due to homologation. Interestingly, the new S1000XR has Hayes front calipers.

Ah ok, ta.
Yes I spotted the Hayes on new XR.

Not sure what your pathological hatred of BMW comes from, but every chance you are on it. I had one of the RTs, and the dealers were brilliant, things happen, I had the offer for them to buy it straight back, swap with a different model, have a loan bike for the time until fixed and then have my warranty extended and compensation. I had a 30k Harley which was off the road after one week for a month with a kill switch fault, nadder, fuck all from Harley, not even a loan bike. Every manufacturer has some issues, even your beloved Orange, but how many actually support their customers. Of course everything should be perfect, but life isn't like that.

Beloved orange ?
Is that why there’s no KTM in my garage but there is a GS ?
Chill out.

The thing that strikes me here is that we have a manufacturer and a dealer trying to sort the OP's problems out on a used bike sold by another dealer. I wonder where else you'd experience that level of service?

Nothing unusual about that … It's a used bike still covered under the manufacturers warranty :thumby:

On the subject of rejection, apparently BMW have already told Dean at Marshals that if the bike is deemed "fine" despite the unexplained noise, and I go ahead with rejection, that if I get another one and it exhibits the same noise, they will not entertain rejection again, if the bike is also deemed to be "fine" as in their eyes I'll have gone into a second purchase knowing it's a possibility

As my old Boss would say "there's a big difference between a characteristic and a fault" :D

On the subject of rejection. Are you are thinking of getting a like for like replacement or all your money back ? :augie

I understand that it's common for repairs under warranty to be done by another dealer, but the OP is hoping to reject the bike which unless there's a clause in the warranty allowing this? (I don't know as I don't have a copy) it would be under the consumer rights act 2015 so against the selling dealer, not the dealer currently trying to sort this out or BMW.

Yes I'm sure he understands that he can only reject the bike back to the dealer he bought it from ;)

How did you get on?

This had to be postponed until the 18th I' afraid so I'll know in a few days! Bikes is getting worse generally speaking so I have a list of problems they need to address. The original engine had one issue, the ticking. The replacement engine has seen the following things happen:

1. Ticking noise which resulted in shims and clearances needing to be done.
2. Still ticking but not as loud, sounds deeper in the engine.
3. 1st to 2nd with the clutch is very clunky/rattly, didn't happen on original engine.
4. When auto blipping into 1st, occasionally it bounces out of 1st into neutral.
5. Error message stating drop sensor problem.
6. Error message stating limited traction control issue.
7. Repeated failures to start with engine sounding like it freezes or gets stuck after about 1 full revolution.
8. Phone connectivity is spotty despite trying multiple devices.

I suspect it'll not end with an amicable outcome, I get the feeling BMW just want me to shut up and go away now.

stand your ground PeeJay. If the customer service is as good as it should be you all be BMW free on the 19th. That list is shite news. The engines issues should not arise, They won't take the phone connectivity into consideration, due to different parameters like different phones and headsets etc, However they really need to get thier act together with the TFT connections with bluetooth. Its a disgrace

I’m keeping everything crossed for you

Thanks chaps, I really don’t know what I’ll do if they can’t find a resolution and I reject the bike. I won’t buy another 1250 so it’ll be the end of my biking career at least for a period of time. I’m not looking forward to Wednesday!

End of your biking career?

There are other makes other than BMW, you know. ;)

I was an avid BMW supporter, but it would take a lot for me to return. Get your money back, and try some other brands. It’ll upset the fanboys, but your bike has been a shower of shit. Get your money back, and try something else, you have no ties to BMW. They do not dictate your “biking career”.

I know what you mean mate, and it probably does sound dramatic to phrase it that way but I took a lot of time to decide to jump ship from my Triumph Explorer to the BMW. I test rode most other brands and similar styles of bikes, KTM Adventure, Ducati Multostrada, Honda Africa Twin etc and none of them even remotely lit my fire. For me, if the BMW goes back I’ve already ruled out the rest of the competition as an option as none of the others are right for me, at least not when I test rode them all last time.

Well, if it HAS to be a BMW, your only other option is the new S1000XR. But that’s a brand new model, so may come with its own bunch of issues.
