Advice on 1150

I have been told of a GS1150 possibly for sale, but have been told its been modified with a new ECU which improves the performance to that of the new GS1200.

Now my knowledge of bike mechanics you could write on the back of a postage stamp, so I was hoping someone on here could advise.

Is this an 'accepted' improvement?

I've been told its 'not mint' with 30,000 something miles on the clock. The owner is a bit vague but I think it will be below £3000. It has further modifications but I am unsure what at the moment, hopefully will see it soon unless you suggest not to bother.

Get the full spec of the bike and let us know more details. The "new ECU" is more than likely either an ECU remap or maybe a PCIII - power commander. Both are great mods and make the bike more interesting to ride. Depends what you want really - if you want a one careful IAM type owner with FBMWSH maybe walk away, otherwise investigate further and let us know. Low miles too which is a good start.

Perhaps it had a Hilltop Remap and the power has jumped from 85bhp to 110bhp (of the 12GS spec) - could be legit, seen plenty of dyno graphs here

Jeeez don't start that again JB. Post the full specs and we'll give you an honest opinion. It's easily possible to make an 1150 outperform a standard 1200 given the right parts.

Why anyone would want to de tune an 1150 to perform like a 1200 is beyond me, I'd walk away

Ive got an 1150 gs and a 1200 adventure,both great bikes,this one sounds dodgy,plenty of great 1150's about and depending on year the mileage is erelevant providided it has history and generally looks good,if its clean not to much corrosion on the front and engine fins etc it has probably been looked after,usually loads of corrosion means whoever rode it couldn't be bothered to clean it and if you don't do that then generally you don't bother to maintain it either

Oi! My 1150's usually shat-up to buggery, but in perfect mechanical order and serviced regularly.
