Hopefully going to look at a 2003 R1150GS on Sunday. Few issues with it that i need advice on.

1. 131,000 km`s on it. Is this mental milage?

2. RH throttle body rattling. Common fault but is it a cheap fix?

3. Alternator belt fecked. Was just looking at steptoes thread on this and doesnt seem too bad of a job.

Anything else i should be looking for? To be honest the milage is putting me off it but it is way cheaper than any others ive seen.

yeah, what kind of cash are they looking?

I just recently bought an 1100GS with 100k km's so it's not really a lot.

In your case, 14000 miles a year is not that bad but it depends on the asking price.

I'd often rather buy a bike that has been used regularly rather than spent 90% of it's time connected to an Optimate umbilical cord:) If the price is right, and you're intention is to ride it rather than look/w*nk over it then look at the mileage more as 'experience'.

Rattling throttle bodies don't seem to effect performance and can be refurbed cheaply.

Alternator belts can be changed in 10 minutes by the side of the road and cost 10 quid.

If you don't want it and it's cheap, then let me know cos I'm looking for a cheap 2nd hack:thumb

Can't help thinking that as the man has EUROS in his pocket.. the real bargain bikes are over here... all with built-in 30% discount... isn't it?

Slane isn't far from the airport/ferry after all.... :aidan

Has it got a service history?

I just changed the final drive bearing on my 1150 yesterday after it failed. 60,000 kilometers on it. The bearing was very bad.
Make sure to check the play on the rear wheel.......

Dunno if it has or not Pat. Ill know on sunday hopefully. Depends if my ST1100 sells tomorrow. Its actually in Meath too. Only a few miles from me.

If you are willing to travel I'd go for a lower mileage model with full service history.

My 2001 GS cost me £3000, with 60,000 miles, full service history (I mean everything - tyres, screws, bolts, everything) and full luggage.

Dunno what things are like over there, but I would say you could potentially get a better deal elesewhere.

JUST MY OPINION, this might be wrong...

You can get the ARD case panniers and top box (plus mounting racks) for less than £600 the last time I checked.

Would still pay for FSH and less miles... Just me.

Have a look at the bike, see what you think.

But if I was you I would head up north for one, or do what I did and get a cheap flight across the water and pick up one in very good condition with a service history for around the same money.
I got mine of this site.

Ferry back from Hollyhead is not to expensive at all.....

A nice ride to test out the new machine too....
