Advice on a route to Saint Romain en Charroux

I am planning a route to Saint Romain en Charroux, which is between Poitiers and Limoges to see my old man.
I would like to go a resonably scenic route but a fairly swift one or at least avoiding the toll roads, not for cost reasons but just because thats what i want to do.

I have done a couple of routes in Garmin MapSource and one takes me to the east and through Paris around the Periferique and the other takes me to Mont-Saint-Aignan and Elbeuf to the west then down to Le Mans and south to my destination.
