As its only a tarted up 1200 it's not stretching credibility to assume that the first two broke down.

TOTALLY AGREE DONT!:D

POOR BUILD QUALITY CRAP SEAT= BAD BACK:eek:

Quite the opposite. Buy one, the seat depends on the shape of your bum. Build quality is fine. Get the heated grips, fog lights and some luggage. IMO that is all you need. I love mine and would not trade it for anything.

Utter bollox,as usual from this site !!!

There were a few issues with rusty pannier rails/engine bars.

I had my pannier rails replaced under warranty.

BUT........it's a great bike......my first BMW,and the only one I would own at the mo.The seat is VERY comfortable.

This year I rode 281 miles from the ferry to our first stop overnight without getting off the bike-no probs at all.

I would go for these extras:

factory fit pannier rails (cheaper than retro fitting)
heated grips
ABS
spots
white indicator lenses
trip comp.

The trip comp is erratic with regard to range but does become v accurate when you need it most,as you approach an empty tank.

You can specify road tyres as a no cost option.

This replaces the TKCs with either Tourances,Anakees or Battlewings ( I think).

Mine came with Anakees, and despite not being that highly rated, were brilliant, but I've now replaced them at 4500 miles with Trailmaxs.

The BMW ally panniers are brilliant.

Some people here will tell you the usual shite about how they are rubbish and leak and not as strong as Metal Mule/Jesse blah blah blah.

But mine have never leaked a drop. You can have them coded with the ignition key so you only need one key for everything-the inner bags mean that you can simply get your gear out in seconds when you reach your destination, and also the inner bags come with straps so they can attach to the top of ther panniers thereby doubling your capacity !!.

They may not be as strong as others, but I've no intention of going up Everest with mine, and most people just get other makes because they are Ewan-wannabees !

And don't forget to order the faster white/red colour.

Good luck

Agree with everything but the colour ... silver is faster!:mcgun

did you find one

Wells it's all a bit tricky with so many conflicts. The obvious ones appear to ge good seat/bad seat and good panniers/bad panniers. I'm test riding tomorrow so I'll see what the dealer has to say as well and see if he's got any second hand stuff to look at. Many thanks to all of you for responding though, very good of you to take time out. Cheers.

mill BMW sunderland has just got an 06 GS adventure in nice condition to
if you get stuck ring them, as not many about second hand
ask for paul sharman on sales and tell him chris osborne sent you will do you a good deal on it, ps I have a full bmw panniers and top box with all the fittings for sale, as new, cheers ozz:rolleyes:

silver for me to

Welcome to the forum Tim :)

I haven't got the time to read the whole thread properly now, but in case you've not noticed by now, there's a bit of a war between 1150 and 1200 owners on here (they started it :augie ), sorry you had to find that out on your first post
Now, the fact of the matter is if you're willing and able to get a nice brand new GSA, you probably wouldn't be interested in a 4+ year old 1150 anyway, so I'd ignore most of the 1150 owners telling you not to get one :D I've got a 1200GS and it's been absolutely spot on since day one.

Anyway as for optional extras... Every BM I've ridden had heated grips, seems to be the norm and they are nice in winter. You might want a nice exhaust on it, though if you fancy fitting it yourself to save some cash get it off ebay, or ask if the dealer has any lying around (mine did :D ).
I'm not sure what comes as standard on the GSA nowadays to be honest, but if crash bars are an optional extra, don't get the BM ones, get some hepco and becker ones. They're cheaper and much better. Try the standard seat out for a while, if it hurts, sargent seats are good (do a search here!). There's a lot of aftermarket luggage about if you don't fancy the BMW stuff, I got touratech panniers which are good.

Each BMW I've had, I've budgetted an extra £1000 or so for aftermarket stuff. It'll feel perfect on a test ride, but once you start living with it you may want to change some bits like the seat, screen, exhaust, etc.

If you've not ridden one you've gotta try it. I tryed one before I could afford it and wanted one ever since. Now I've got one I'm happy as larry :thumb2

I just bought a 1200 gs ADV....my third gs. It is an awsome machine. Interestingly, I thought the same about all my GS's when delivered as new. Still, in most ways, BMW keeps finding ways to make them even better. My observations are this. The shocks are pretty good. Not as tight as Ohlins, but I don't feel like I have to go out and immediately replace them with the yellow springed units before the 600 mile service. The engine is now counterbalanced. Right at about 400 miles the thing just smoothed out and power just came on like a switch was flipped or something. Hmmm, come to think about it.., computer mapping change for break in? The ADV is taller than the standard GS...quite a feat to swing your leg over it if under 6 ft. tall...It doesn't seem to have a preferred speed range like most other bikes I've owned. Feels great at 70mph as well as 100mph. And lastly, the muffler has a great tone...I used to put a Staintune or Remus on my bikes before they even left the showroom floor....not anymore...this one works beautifully.

Thanks again everyone. I test rode one and enjoyed myself enough to decide to buy one. I'm finalising the deal as we speak but hopefully will have a few extras to keep me amused once purchased.
