Found a rack support on the Wunderlich site (though, oddly, not on their UK site:confused: ), think I might fit one of these having read this thread! Details here.

Mike , I took was a little concerned on the rack breakage.
On holidays I have used the bmw topbox and my pillion girlfriend
(ok now fiancee!) tends to use it as a backrest.

And yes i know that's not so good but at least it keeps me in the good books!
Anyway i persuaded her to buy the wunderlich rack support at christmas! A change from a turkey!
It fits fine no problem, looks standard and allows topbox fitting.
But if you are thinking of fitting a horrible topbox ,there are 2 type of rack.
Alternatively someone with better skill and time than me could make it easily .(vern another opening for you?)

Colt,

just thought about strengthening the rack for when I want to load up with my Ortlieb bags etc. I'll be fitting Jesse bags and a rear compartment, which fits on the rear rack, would the frame affect the fit of that? If I'm not fitting a box, which version of the strengthening kit should I order? Here's a pic of the Jesse stuff....

Hi

Having just orderd my new GS Adventure for a July delivery, I now have a while to decide on what luggage to buy. I only travel solo, so I think that the 'standard' BMW panniers should be OK. I have Krauser luggage on my VFR, but am concerened that it will protrude too far out in order to miss the exhaust. Any opinions? Also, if I do decide to go the BMW route, what is the best UK price?

Many thanks,

Charles

Hi Charles,

I'd look out for some second-hand System panniers (I'd buy the frames with the bike, they're not hugey expensive and, for some reason, cases are not always advertised with rails). They're often advertised on the BB here, or try searching EBay. Make sure you search for 'items which can be delivered to the UK' on EBay, which gives you access to the German market, which is huge.
