we are doing our first bike trip to scotland at the end of april , never done anything like this before , been out and bought a tent , do you normally strap the tent to the top of the top box ? if so with what ( bungies or small ratchet straps ) :nenau

Jesus wept

Wherever and however it will not fall off, might seem a good place to start.

Use the smallest amount of imagination, please.

PS Yup, I have had a remarkably fine afternoon at lunch. Seven pints of Pride, a decent slug of Rioja, two large stickies, a steak (with trimmings) and a stewed cheese. Just in case anyone was in the slightest bit interested.

Good to see wapping being his usual friendley ,supportive self and most unhelpfull to the less knowlegable than his brilliant self again :blast: :clap :clap :D :D :D

...and your advice as to where and how to lash a (two person, possibly) tent is :nenau

Come on, don't be shy. Timolgra has had a stab at it. It's your go now.

I would not stick it on the top box as there are weight restrictions - put it in front of the top box instead.

I normally take my panniers and leave the top box behind. Then tent/roll bag gets strapped on the back seat.

Flip through the images and see what everyone else is doing

The clue was in the words 'we are doing'

He has a fecking pillion.

All you have done now is inspire him to leave his significant other behind. :blast

PS Just realised 'we' could mean him and his mates. In which case, suggest he asks his mates where and how they intend carrying their tents.... Though they might ride motorcycles other than 1200 GS's, in which case all their advice is perhaps to some degree superfluous.

Stick a couple of batteries in it and get the pillion to sit on it, you wont hear a word from her all trip, just a few groans here and there :augie

sorry should have said will be riding two up , the tent is just under 5kg would that be to heavy ?

have a few trial runs out with your bike packed up and see what works for you.

Rob - never mind the helpful comments. Everyone has to start somewhere. If riding single, the pillion seat is the best option (see attached). Personally, I prefer something like rok-straps to bungee hooks. If two up, then lashing to tops of top/side boxes is the natural available alternative.

Started badly... Finished well.

Robjet, I think you have the answer.

Strap it on where (and how) it and your pillion will not fall off.
