Advice please guys !!

I know this is in the wrong place but didn't have a clue where to start the thread

Ive got a Aunt who has just had a stroke and now cant talk, she has all her marbles but she lives alone and its really hard to communicate on the phone !! im looking for a tablet of sorts that can take a sim card to enable her to text me and the others in the family, she can use my Ipad but it only works with Imessages and some of us have moved on from Iphones

Basically I need something like a giant mobile phone with a Ipad size screen that she can text us all on
any ideas ??

Have a look into that. I have one that is two years old that I don't use. You can have that for £35 delivered if you like, see how you get on.

Thanks Nav had a look at the video on there but it doesn't say anything about a sim card or slot for one
I just want one to put a pay as you go sim in and when it runs out top it up

It takes a sim card, it's a phone as well as a tablet. Ahead of the ipad in that regard.

Last question is it locked to any network, as where she lives there isn't a lot of signal on some networks

no, it was bought outright, charges off a mini USB, I guess you could use an iphone charger if she has no PC.

I have to say I was not really looking to make a sale, just wanted to solve your issue.

Still, I guess it's a good price.

Try looking at the Asus Fonepad. I have one, uses a normal sim, I use a T-Mobile PAYG, can text, phone, browse, etc.

May do the trick!

She could use the IPad with google hangouts. Then you install hangouts on your devices as well. It is a messaging app that works across all platforms and also allows video calls.

AB, you seem to have multiple requirements. I have a Galaxy Tab 7 inch which you may want to borrow and see if it meets your requirements. I keep it as a backup so it is currently not being actively used. It will help you evaluate before you take a decision on purchase. If you want to Google, search for the orginial Samsung Galaxy Tab, the first version. Don't think they do phones this large anymore

It is a 7 inch touch screen tablet - large enough to have a big manageable touch keyboard.
I also have a physical keyboard dock, which always helps in case touch screen is too small or becomes an issue.
It takes a SIM and functions as a massive phone - can be used as a phone if need be (don't have to have a separate phone/SIM for voice calls).

Let me know if this is something that you want to try and I can get it into Kent through a work colleague next week. You can then pick it up from there.

You have mentioned that you would like to have something with an iPad size screen ie. 8.9 in. This has a 7 in screen so that is the only drawback and it is also on the heavier side (this was before the whole low weight thing got kicked off by that industry)
