Advice please on Fuel availability in France, Spain and Portugal. Leaving 15th May 26

Been in Spain about 5 weeks now, currently near Girona.

No problems. Fuel is cheaper here than France

Bloody Frogs charging more for fuel, socialist twats. Gonna cost me an arm and a leg to get down to Switzerland this coming week.

Might have to go easy on the Toblerone when I get there.

Bloody Frogs charging more for fuel

Long gone are the days when bikermates used to squeeze every last drop of French fuel into their tanks, in order to save 50p.

Also long gone are the endless posts on UKGSer giving dire predictions of the unavailability of fuel in France on a Sunday. Naturally enough, these dire predictions triggered even more posts and threads, bods having been panicked before they’d even set off. Also, much less frequent are the posts where bods struck terror into bikermates’ very souls, when it came to automatic petrol pumps and the guarantee of an absolute refusal by the pumps to accept English bank / credit cards. Travel across the Channel was indeed only for the brave or foolhardy….. sometimes for some, it has seemingly not changed much.

My advice...

Stop at every fuel station you see.......

And never believe anything posted on social media or elsewhere...even on here...

that could be time consuming for those crossing a border into Luxembourg where you might find 8 fuel stations lined up in a row, all doing a roaring trade from the French, Belgian or German motorists filling up at lower prices. 25c of fuel in each one.

You don’t even need to see them anymore. A basic Garmin device or indeed Google maps, will create routes from fuel station to fuel station, over hundreds of miles. They’ll even do it avoiding motorways, which is a must in the book of any red blooded bikermate.

It’s also an area where the sneaky sods put in speed cameras (temporary and fixed) to catch bods inevitably steaming towards the oasis.

Not sure if I’m allowed to post this but here goes. I’d appreciate advice regarding fuel shortages or otherwise in the following locations. We start from St Malo, head down to Royan, Biarritz then across to Potes in the Picos and on to Santiago del Compostela, Lisbon, Gibraltar, Valencia, Girona, Orleans and back to St Malo. We are using motorway and B roads.

It would be great if site users could advise the locations where we may find shortages. We are travelling from 15th to 31st May 26.

Thanks for any assistance.

Regards
John

I’ve moved it from Trip Reports for you.

They have fuel in Europe

It’s really quite civilised despite being foreign.

Bit late now for Mr Wapping but the cheapest diesel in France for the moment is in Total stations as they are having a dingdong with the government over threats to tax their recent profits

Hopefully that bloodless war will continue well into June.

PLEASE GO SLOW - THINK OF THE PETROL!!1
This snippet…

…..alongside recommendations for increased home working….

Won’t sit well with HMG and many employers who are having to whip their staff to turn up.

I guess (always dangerous, I know) that a reclassification of limits in towns and village to 20 mph from say 30 mph, might well require the removal and replacement of all speed limit signage. Whilst easy enough on motorways, where the signs are predominantly electronic, it would be one hell of an exercise across the UK. That it won’t be completed in a day, is all but certain, leading to confusion…. As if the average bod on the Clapham omnibus ain’t confused enough already. Panic will manifest itself on these pages, but that’s a daily occurrence, especially as the holiday season approaches and the terrors of somewhere as exotic as Western Europe loom.

I’ve added

‘Won’t be able to get any fuel anywhere in continental Europe’

To the UKGSer Bed Wetting Handbook, available nowhere.

Interesting that neither Total or Esso are publishing their prices on fuel apps.
