A serious question ( :blast ).

I hate to mention windows, given the spate of recent posts ( :D ) but I need to find someone local who can fix one.

My elder daughter just bought a house in Bo'Ness (yeah . . I know . . ). It has plastic windows that can hinge along the bottom edge and pivot open along the top, or hinge on a vertical face and open completely for cleaning on both sides.

They have cheap, tacky handles and lots of complicated metal links around the sides.

All are a bit worn but one is knackered and won't shut.

I have had a look at the mechanism (without undoing anything) and can't find any makers marks.

I could take it apart - but without any new bits to hand I'll have a large hole in the wall while I try to make things !

Does anyone know an Engineer / Fitter who could fix it (West side of Edinburgh, preferably) ?

I don't want to call C R Smith unless I really have to :D

Thanks.

Bob.

Thanks Roddy, that's a great help.

I'll go to the house later today and take some photos before I start e-mailing for information.

Thanks.

Bob the window is called a tilt and turn.
They can be a bit temperamental but most of the time they are just siezed with lack of use.
If you look at the very bottom of the hinged side there should be an allen key for adjusting it if it has dropped.
If you take a pic of the handle i might have some alternatively try here.

Thanks Rab.

I've got it to bits and the locking mechanism drive gear and handle are shot.

It turns out to be a Siegenia-Aubi unit and HD Hardware have all the necessary parts.

Good tip about the adjustment though as the frame has dropped a bit and has to be lifted to shut :thumb2.

While I'm at it I'll re-new some parts in other windows before they break.

The things I do for Daughters :blast

:D :D :D
