Not GS but I am hoping someone can help...
I've been offered an R65/6 a bit like the photo below:

View attachment 171872

An american import, 5,900 genuine miles.

Sounds very good, starts well, taxed and tested but steering head bearings feel as though they need re-greasing / replacing.

Paint is pretty good (garaged all it's life) new exhaust and silencers

I can't put a price to it - looked at loads of web sales but can't find anything similar.

Anyone have any ideas of what to offer / what it's genuinely worth?

I know that it's worth as much as someone is prepared to pay but what's a fair price for both the buyer and the seller?

Thanks in advance.........

Sorry - cant be any direct help about value - you're right in that it's worth what it gets basically.

but i'm curious;
R65/6

i've never heard of an R65 with a "/6" designation

It's an early one - the flat top carbs are the giveaway. 1980?
I've had two R65's - early and late - an '81 and an 86'.
Both sweet agile low stress and pleasant, though slow to get up to pace.

Good luck. :)

Thanks for the response - I am sorely tempted just because it's there but doubt if it would be a keeper.

I'll get a bit more info if I can - may not be /6 - I was working on the premise that the /6 75's had front discs but these are much later anyway (and always had discs?)....I think maybe I should concentrate on sorting out the 75/5 rather than have fun riding for a short while.

I get the feeling I wouldn't get my money back if I sold the 65 after a few months.

Thanks for helping me with my decision - if anyone's interested I can pass their details on to the gentleman who's selling.

From my brief look it may not have the flat top bing carbs - and has higher bars (american) and american headlight lense.

I.

The R65 was never a /6 or a /7. It's a plain and simple R65. I bought one new in 1980 and still have it. Great little bikes.

Flat top carbs up to august 1981, then the dome top carbs after.

With that mileage i'd imagine it'll be worth somewhere around £1000 -£1500 :nenau

Thanks Neil..........the gentleman wants what he paid for it 15 years ago: £2,700.00 - knocked him down a bit but not enough.

1200 is running well by the way - thanks for that.

Sounds like Ebay is the home for this one.
