Hi,

My battery is knackered on my 2004 1200GS. I have read up on the searches and I am more confused when I started.

Not surprised that the battery did die after the bad winter we have had and not being able to get it out of the shed for a couple of months due to the ice.

So I have searched and have been thinking of one of these :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GENUINE-YUASA-YTX14-BS-MOTORBIKE-QUAD-JETSKI-BATTERY-/110572050745?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item19be9b9939

Posts that I have read state that a normal battery is more resistant to being left with no trickle charge than a AGM battery which needs to be topped up at all times and as the bike is kept in a shed with no electricity I was thinking that a normal battery would be a more viable option.

Or, should I stick to an AGM battery and spend a little more and get one of these?

Any help appreciated.

I don't think that either of those battery's are powerful enough as far as I know you need 19 or 20 amps. JJH

Get the cheapest one which is recommended for the GS. `I'm on my 2nd in getting on for 5 years which is OK for me. My bike lives outside and has never seen a charger :thumb

The R1150GS uses a 19A battery. The battery the OP refers to, YTX14-BX is the correct one for the R1200GS.

I've had an AGM battery on my bike for 6 years. It gets infrequent top ups over winter and about 6000 miles worth from the alternator. I think the information you have "read on the internet" or "heard in the pub" about AGMs misrepresents reality. In my experience, AGM batteries hold onto their charge very well.

At the price offered, I'd buy that Yuasa gel battery from Ebay as the price includes delivery & the acid pack.

I was in the same situation 11moths ago. Ended up buying yuasa YTX14-BS, that lasted 10 months. The yuasa has 12 warranty however the shop started to bulshit about me not using it right. Now it is with the importer to find out what is wrong. Waited for a month and no response so far. Ended up buying Odyssey PC535 from motomoto.nl for 124euro, free shipping + 5% discount with coupon MM-28335. Be aware the delivery took 2 weeks. Btw, the 2010 model of pc535 fits whitout any cutting of fins...
