Mate of mine has an 1150R with the twin spark engine. He's just fitted high lift cams and went to change the oil yesterday to find bits of plastic in with the old oil. He's removed the left cylinder head to find the lower cam chain guide is broken.

He doesn't know if it broke cos of something he's done or if it's failed in use, but what I'd like to ask is this. Is it possible to fit a new guide without seperating the case? the shaft it secures onto appears to have a securing clip which may make the job difficult. I won't try to describe it further, anyone who knows the answer will also know what I mean.

Also, should there be some sort of non return spigot on the tensioner plunger? He's described it to me as simply a sprung plunger, which to my mind may allow for the cam chain to 'whip' when the cam lobes have gone past TDC (so to speak) and are then being pushed by the valve spring closing the valve.

Any thoughts?
