Open Letter To Valentino Rossi

Dear Valentino,
Sorry your racing year did not quite work out.
I am writing as I think I may have the answer to your bikes handling problems. A UKGSER site user K9DOC is an expert on bike set ups and handling. Apparently if you put a set of wide bars on, increase the suspension travel by at least four times and sit bolt upright you will go a lot faster through the twistier circuits around the world. I understand that this goes against all laws of physics but K9DOC is sure he is correct.
Good Luck in 2016 and can't wait to see your new bike.

Cheers Dave.

I am lucky to have my wife pillion for 80% of my riding, she likes to tuck inn behind me on a bike and be comfortable (she likes a little nap) easy on a RT not so easy on a GS due to a higher rear seat, she allways liked the R1100 and R1150RS bikes we had, but says the RT is the most enjoyable we have had
I like scooters so the looks of the RT LC don't bother me

Hi just to let you know packing up riding, going to use son's bike for short runs.
so 2015 bike in the for sale section.

Once again you exhibit tw@t like tendencies. It seems from your post that you are equating the back roads that we are both familiar with to a twistier racing circuit.
Not much point bantering with someone who makes witless comments like that. I think you know perfectly well the type of twisty road, maybe a bit lumpy, that I have in mind. Then again you maybe avoided said roads in your many thousands of miles aboard your GSAs and just went up and down the A1 to the milky bar at Squires and talked bollox with like minded souls.

Happy New Year :beerjug:

back to the OP subject …..the RTlc is a great bike and you will the ride. the suspension issue has been done and sorted on every model throughout the world…if your purchasing privately just ask the seller for confirmation as too what was done …

They have had some switch gear issues, Mine and 2 friends have had these changed over . but nothing else springs to mind

buy it, ride it ,love it

At the risk of sounding "old" (I will be 50 in January) I have owned BMW bikes since the age of 29 my first bike being an R1100RS, then 2 R1100RT's, 2 K1200rs's 2 k1200gt's a hex head R1200RT 3 R1200GS's and a GS Adventure, the new RT (apart from the finish, but that wil survive if you keep on top of it with ACF 50) is by far the best motorbike I have owned. I did 2500 miles last July taking it to the Bikermeet in Garmisch as well as the German Alpine route to Berchtesgarten and down to Lugano in Italy. The bike was an absolute hoot, devouring stretches of motorways and being able to hussle through the bends. I nearly thought about a triumph trophy when I had problems with my first water cooled Rt LC (see my thread on corosion) but this bike is fantastic and I am so glad I went for another one. At the end of the day it is down to choice, find a half decent dealer who wil let you have a test ride for at least half a day. After all, it is your hard earned you will be spending on it.

Hi to all that have generously replied to my original post. I was amazed to get so many passionate replies to a relatively innocuous question.

It has given me much to think about. Whilst the GS forum is active more than any other forum I visit it seems that when prodded the RT riders have a decent voice as well.

Thank you all.

And there we have it, someone the wrong side of 60 (your description) with his superiority complex (mentioned in a previous post) resorting to slagging someone off just because he dares to disagree with something said.
I've always thought this was a great bikers site with loads of free advice, help and great ride reports (noticed you have never done one) then they started letting people like you in. Shame.

Owned both bikes and would never compare the GSA to the RT in any respect, just totally different bikes.

The RT is significantly smoother, more comfortable and without question faster on any road.

Still have the 2014 RT LE and consider it the best bike I've ever owned.

Although having done 40,000miles plus on a GSA and 11,000miles on the RT you could argue the RT is a little too smooth and too comfortable removing much of the fun and excitement that a GSA brings in bucket loads.

I'd love one of each...now there's a thought!

Bought RTLE last year in the absolute fastest Callisto Grey....Love it to pieces does everything well. Went to get it serviced and BStormers lent me an XR....oh Dear...PX-ed my 2013 GS for the XR and now have the best of both worlds....RTLE for everyday/long distance comfort and XR for grin factor....both fab bikes and am like a pig in sh1t!:bounce1

If I had to choose one, it would be the RTLE as it does everything really well, buy it you wont regret it.

Having owned lots of GS's..
1 x 1100GS
1 x 1150GS
3 x 1200GS's inc, a WC
2 x 1200GSA's SC&TC

So i have a deep love for all thing GS. However, my RTLC is simply a superior road bike in every way.
I can ride quicker on my RT on any metaled road, than i can on a any GS/GSALC, and in superlush comfort. :bow

Since owning your RT have you taken a new GSA out for a test ride? I did, its fatal for those having owned GS/GSA for long periods of time, I've not stopped smiling since. The RT is an awesome bike for sure...BUT!

Yes, I've ridden a few GSA LCs on half a dozen occasions, just to keep convincing myself that i dont want one...However, in my opinion, my RTLC is a far superior road bike and tourer in every way.
My RT is quicker, handles better, comfier, more refined, better equipped, better with a pillion, superior weather protection and screen...etc...

I still love the GSA for its sheer ruggedness and road presents, and i'd have one in my ultimate garage, alongside my RT, Diavel, H2R and Panigali.

I second that and it is exactly why I went for the RT to replace my twincam GSA instead of the GSA LC, although I still look at it each time I see one. I wish I had both he he...

I also found the RT's higher gearing more suitable for pure road riding, it reminds me of my old VFR pre v-tec on how a good sport tourer it is, I would have never bought the twin-cam model but with the LC I was hooked.

I own both (RT and GS).

As others have said, they are a great, great thing. Really comfy for me (I'm 5 10, average proportions - the bike is made for me).

The best handling big bike I have owned....and I've owned all the popular big bikes....

I'm off for a blast up my fav range tomorrow morning early. I'm taking the RT.

Owned a 2009 GS MU from new for three years, which I rode to Moscow & St. Petersburg in 2011, and around Ireland the following year. I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed by the poor seats and the handling having moved up from a 2006 Suzuki GSF650 which I'd been around the UK on. The GS wasn't that much more comfortable than the Suzuki and my rear was only saved by an Airhawk cushion...I never came to like the feel of the front end which I found quite vague. I don't profess to being anything than an average rider by the way.

Since the GS I've had a V-Strom 650 (OK, I apologise for mentioning such a bike on here) and a 2015 Tiger 800 XCX. I went with a mate to test ride an RT last year and became hooked immediately. Such a fantastic bike to ride that I went back last month and bought the demonstrator! It was a cold and wet day and I was soaked by the time I got to Bahnstormers but my clothes had dried out once I 'd got the RT home such is the weather protection. I find it the easiest bike to ride and manoeuvre I've ever owned:-)
