Advice wanted please!

I only got GSAP because I managed to get it for free and it's definitely taken me a bit of time to call it useable. I have also occasionally managed to find neutral using it which can be terrifying when you down shift just before a t-junction, bank it in just to find you have no drive!

However the revelation for me came when I started green laning. In enduro mode I find it'll happily go up and down even between 1st and 2nd. Don't know if it's the ECU making it easier or my different riding position/throttle control.

Keyless Start and Contactless Payment are GODS in the motorcycle world right now.

I've also got keyless entry to my home now... so nearly NO KEYS at all. Love it.

I would suggest you're not using it properly, or it just doesn't suit your riding style.

The word 'assist' is accurate. It isn't compulsory and shouldn't be used like an automatic gearbox.

There will be times when engine load, low gear, low revs, low speed and circumstances require you to manually intervene and use finer control of the clutch.

Once you accept it's not designed to be an automatic gearbox, but an assistant to help with the majority of upshifts and downshifts, you will find it more useful.

If you are under engine braking and trying to upshift it wont work easily. If you are at very low revs (1000-1500) downshifts may not work well either.

Ideally it needs good spirited riding at revs above 3000 rpm to 9000 rpm. For upshifts have a good open throttle and leave throttle open with transmission under load when upshifting. On downshifts close throttle completely (sweetspot about 4500-5000 rpm). Works great then. Once you find the downshift revs sweet-spot for engine braking its great fun.

Bumbling about at low revs and weak throttle wont do you or it any favours. It'll be nearly unuseable or harsh thumpy gearchanges at best. No fun. Clutch should be used in these circumstances.

Its primarily designed as an assistant for 'sporty' riders thrashing through the gearbox. But works well for enthusiastic riders as well. Lazy riders its next to useless.

Get the newest he can afford... GSAP and keyless are great imho.. I chose to get the newest as I then won't be temped to upgrade so soon... love my 2016 with GSAP and keyless

My bike is keyless but no GSAP, my mates GS is the opposite.

Both of us are happy with the spec we ordered and to me that is all that matters.

I have keyless and GSAP. And I'll never ride another bike without them. GSAP has been a bit of a learning curve as I'm still pre the first 600 mile service, but stomping down through the gears as well as up makes me giggle.

WRONG! Keyless does serve a purpose - I like it; that's good enough for me.

AND... I think Hill Start Assist is a complete waste of space. So far, it's just been a complete PITA to me. Can it be disabled in the setup menu?

Now, what would be really useful is a powered centre stand. :beerjug:

Keyless surves a massive purpose for me.

I ride all year round especially in winter, often zero or sub zero riding conditions.

Being able to get kitted up in the warm, put key in waterproof pocket, then go outside to my bike and fire it up. Bliss.

Then at petrol stations, get off, unlock fuel cap (no keys) still with gloves and helmet on. Bliss.

Then credit card contact-less payment (no fumbling with gloves on for PIN varification) bliss.

Keyless start is just brilliant for uninterupted winter riding. It adds a huge layer of comfort for me.

No lubing key holes, no bent keys, no dropping keys, no taking gloves off, no flapping key fobs.

Get toasty, stay toasty. No keys, no messing.

that's bullshit right there, both my GSA TE have had it and my new 2017 1400 mls has issues with it big time and the gearbox locking in gears from 2-6 and a BMW MOTORAD INSPECTOR has ridden it and agreed its fucked, I have keyless and GSAP and love the keyless providing you actually got a real second key and not plastic
BMW have fucked up on the 2017 spec GSA gearbox big time, oh and my engine rattles like a crack whore on a come down
