I would be grateful if anyone can shed so light on this problem I have.

I bought an 1100gs and have been using it for a few week's.

I changed all the oil's the day I bought it ,old oil looked fine no nasty bit's in it.the engine was quite and smooth.

The only fault it seemed to have was when ridden a tad over 70mph,the head gasket leaked.

So I booked it in to a local Bike Dealer { none BM } who said they could do the job and have it ready the same day...sorted I think.

On the Sunday I went on a ride out with the lads, and again the bike went well, apart from the leak from the gasket.

The next morning I drop's it off at the dealer for the work to be done.

They rang me in the afternoon to say they had a problem getting the cam sprocket off .I said no rush .

Then today they ring me to say, that they have removed the head's ,but it looks like the cam chain blade had broken off and dropped inside the engine, and that I must have been riding with it like this.

What I would like to know is...if the blade had of been broke ,would it have caused the engine to be noisy if the cam chain was lose on one side.

Also the day before I had been riding on the M1 for 2 hours at speed with no ill affect.

Please ,if anyone can give me some advise it would be very welcome.

They tell me I'm facing a full engine rebuild

Yes - big job.

They may have broken it trying to get the sprocket undone.

Only they will know for sure.

You should have shown them the "sticky" at the top of the page = Replacing a headgasket - :D

Thanks Steptoe

I was working late's last week and thought if I started the job,it may take me 2 week's before I had the time to get back in the garage and finish the job off.

I now wish I had done it my self :spitfire

I'm off in to See what they have to say for them self's in the morning .
