Hi

Does anyone have an alternative idea about m/c gear that can be worn over everyday clothing, ie. turn up on a bike take off outer 'protective' clothing (that's not too hot) and appear relatively smart at meetings etc without having to disappear into the gents to change out of leathers into a set of clothes already creased in the top box!? Aerostich appears to do this, any comments, any alternatives?

Thanks
David

Are leathers really not acceptable? I wear 2 piece leathers with a shirt underneath. I do this for all my business meetings and everybody accepts it. It even works as an ice breaker when some po-faced excutive realises you have a bike and he starts to tell you the about the time he toured Spain on a BSA with just a roll of duct tape and a screwdriver to keep him going.

Fieldsheer make a one piece suit similar to the aerostitch roadcrafter in concept but certainly different in style. Looks a bit like a stormtrooper outfit witch is either cool or dreadful depending on your tastes. Details here

IIRC Triumph also do a similar suit but I couldn’t find a pic of that one.

Aerostitch, with its quick entry system (!!!!!) would seem to be the best bet but they certainly aren’t cheap.

Giali have a one piece GT Moto suit* (imported from Italy). I've had one for 3 years and, after a couple of teething problems, it has been very good.

Not as good as an Aerostitch but a lot cheaper with good armour. Touch wood it hasn't been road tested. Has been pretty waterproof considering the design (with a full length zip).

It is good just being able to step in and out of the thing.

* Well they did until recently. I've just had a very quick glance at their website and I couldn't see it. Worth giving them a bell. 08700 110112

I have had the Triumph kit for 2 years now it is warm in the winter (has a hell of a lining) and has good sleeve and back vents for us in the summer I use it daily over work clothes.

I've got a Gialli as well and have been pretty happy with it's ease of use / waterproofiness.

Unfortunately I've also tested it in anger. The armour certainly saved my elbow in my recent off but I wasn't too impressed at how quickly the cordura disintegrated as I was sliding down the road. Luckily I stopped before the gravel got to me.

Get an aerostitich

Get the real thing! Don't help fund organised crime by buying imitation crap!

With the US$ at its lowest for a long time, it's worth getting.

I have had mine for 2 years. Rode it through rain and stuff. Totally waterproof. Exceptions were:

1. After washing it, did not apply waterproofing stuff on properly so outer pockets got wet. I was still dry inside the suit. Since ringing nikwax and getting simple instructions on using their waterproofing stuff, the suit is now back to 100% waterproof including outer pockets

2. Riding in rain and water got through the crutch area. This was because I was rushing and did not velco the flap properly. Once that was discovered, I did up the suit properly. Stay dried through pretty heavy rain.

Their order person is really good. Just tell them your size and they will fit you with a suit.

Best of bit of biking kit I have had.

Met another GSer recently and he uses a two piece roadcrafter. Reason is to improve waterproof ness around the crutch.

Hi
Thanks for all replies and help ~ think I'll explore how to get a one piece suit without the import duty! Will start a new thread on import tax strategy!

David

Get a friend in the states to send it as a gift with a nominal value for customs then you should only need to pay vat and duty on the landed value which would include the shipping costs:D

alternativley educational books and videos are duty free;) ;)

I've owned a one piece Aerostich for about 6 years now and it gets worn every day...or used to, as it is no longer waterproof or even waterproofable. Leaks like a seive through the main zipper and the fabric soaks up water like a sponge. Don't get me wrong, it's a fabulous piece of gear, off or on in 10 seconds, very heavy duty and confidence inspiring. You may find yourself toting an extra rainsuit, or buying a separate cold/wet weather outfit as I have.

David,

don't know if you have made any purchase yet, but leafing through this month's Ride magazine and they give a small review of a new Dainese all in one suit that you wear over your business clothes. And it has CE armour and a back protector. Looks pretty smart and might be ideal for what you need.

Worth checking out.
