Hi all,

I've been after a set of roper style gloves for quite a while now, from what I've read Elkskin is far superior to the cowhide options available here in the UK.
I found out about the Aerostich Roper gloves about a year ago and have wanted a pair ever since as they seem to be way better than other elkskin gloves on the market (the Revco Black Stallion 17A looks kinda cool but i cant find any reviews). Trouble is that with them as far as I can tell, not being sold in the uk (?) the only option is online. The trouble with this is that it doubles the price once you add shipping and customs on.

Does anyone have any advise, know of anywhere in the UK that might supply them, or even have a pair lying around they don't want??

Hi Benlang,

You'll find a lot of folk on here have the Aerostich Ropers. They are highly recommended but as you say, not available in the UK. I bought mine direct from Aerostich but got stung for import duty at round £20 (i think).
Keep an eye in the FS&W section as they do come up occasionally but tend to go fairly quickly...:thumb2

I got mine direct from Aerostich and paid $59. I did not get charged any import duty.
When they arrived I had ordered the wrong size sent them back which cost about £3 and the replacements arrived within a couple of weeks, very good service and great gloves.

Thanks for the advice everyone!

SE Rider & ChasMill, sadly I can't view those threads since I'm not a fully paid up subscriber.

They do seem to be brilliant gloves by all accounts, And i know all things considered they'r not expensive even with the postage and customs. Trouble is the difference between good value and what I can afford to spend!. I may just have to get saving.

And if you were a subscriber....you could have just saved more than your subs by buying the pair advertised on here...that you couldn't see....because you're not subscriber!!

Yeh I see your point! your right aswell, the trouble is there are so many wonderful forums on a range of interesting things that I frequent and if I were to subscribe to them all it would get rather pricey very quickly! It's difficult to know which ones to go for and which not to.

p.s. sorry if I'm going about this the wrong way, I don't want to annoy anyone.

Grier 448

Had anyone had any direct experience of the Grier 448 Gloves?

Apparently they manufactured gloves for Aerostitch. Apart from the lack of the squegee on the thumb the main difference seems to be the outside stitched seems which could prove more comfortable? They'r also slightly cheeper.

Any thoughts?

My aerostitch ropers are getting a bit ropey so I've ordered a pair of these from here https://www.wwag.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/WebSite.woa/wa/DirectAction?navi=1.1&page=GoodStuff a supplier in Germany - hopefully will avoid the import duties (and time it takes) from the US - although I don't think there will be much of a saving... I'll let you know what they're like when they arrive. Have had to order in yellow/natural as they didn't have black on the website that I could see. Well, it makes a change...

Any good?

Sorry - I meant to reply sooner (and I need to work out how to put pictures up).

The gloves arrived within about 3 days - excellent service. They are about twice as thick as the aerostitch gloves and slightly longer in the cuff, but with the same popper closure (which I don't bother with). They are a little stiff so will take a bit of time to wear in but apart from being thicker, the design is the same.

I did find that wearing bright yellow gloves a bit off-putting so have used some Dylon leather dye to stain them dark brown - with the usual slight mixed results but overall they do look better for it.

I will try to post some pictures soon but overall I'm impressed and very pleased with them - much better and thicker than most summer gloves which, I suppose, is reflected in the price.

Sounds even better with the colour change Swiss, post up some photos if you get the chance.

Costco.

If there's a Costco near you please check out their Heavy duty work gloves!
Honestly, was in there Saturday, they are in 3pair packs, very thick well made and supple. Yellow Elkskin and super cheap, and felt comfortable when wearing, not rough stitching etc.
