Africa Twin is coming

DCT worked a treat on my CrossTourer but made the NC700 I tested even wheezier than the manual version. If you've got plenty of bhp I think it's a real must have. The question of course is does the AT have enough oomph to make it worthwhile.....

I'm sure I saw a pic of an AT wearing the full Termi system but can't find it on this thread in last 10 pages or so.

Anybody ?

As you wish......:thumb2

Well, that looks just lovely. Was in the main dealer in Burssels today who confirmed he can supply a UK spec bike for £9127....MPH speedo and everything....Plus the adventure pack is £400 cheaper than the UK.

This sounds more like the price it should have been in the UK. At the UK price I am out....I will put down a deposit and see what happens and will report back. Can't imagine Honda being happy so somewhat sceptical that the dealer can deliver but willing to give it a go.

Ok Guys looking for an honest opinion

Dobles have phoned and asked if they can collect my trade in 15 plate Versys 1000 on the 22nd of December so they have a chance to market the bike as I think the wait for the AT is longer than they expected and my bike is loosing value

I know Dobles are a good bike shop and ive been dealing with them since I bought my first Africa Twin back in 1999 havnt heard that they have gone into liquidation and re opened every 6 months

BUT !! This means they will have my bike a month or so before the AT is delivered they will collect and deliver free so all good

I'm Worried that they could go skint in the meanwhile and then id be Fcuked especially if they have sold my bike

what's the legal position there is there anything that can be done to safeguard myself apart from just not give them the bike ??
Thanks
Rob

I have done this in the past as I don't want to ride the p/x in case anything happens to it and it also clutters the garage, did it with a dealer I trusted a while back and this year with local Triumph/KTM/Kwak dealer but on both occasions I had a courtesy bike , hence how I got to ride the Versys 1000 for nearly 3 weeks waiting for the Explorer to be available. Gave me some comfort knowing I at least had something if it went tits.

Only tried to deal with Dobles once didn't like the tone of the prick on the phone so I noted to myself not to bother with them again :nenau

well if theyve been around since 99 you would think they could manage another month :D

You would think so wouldn't' you, not wishing too be alarmist but many years ago I worked for a ford garage it had been a family run business for years and my boss who had worked there since leaving school took it on.

It was quite a thriving business unfortunately one day the credit line was stopped very abruptly and the business put into receivership. One of the bosses friends had his car with us on sale or return we had sold it and the chq had been sent to him unfortunately the bank account was frozen pretty much instantly - the chq was never honoured. On the morning before the plug was pulled I had sold a lady a car taking a £500 deposit - she never saw that back either. Needless to say I felt bad my boss felt bad the customers were livid as I would be but there was nothing that could be done they both lost their money.

I was thinking it would be very unlucky for anything to happen to them during the next month or so but that's my luck to be honest

Cartjo5 that's what im worried about when it happens it happens fast you don't get 3 mths notice as your aware, bank accounts close over night and my £8500 isn't going to get a look in if they owed the tax man £500K !!
I don't want to upset the deal and pi55 them off but by the same token cant afford to loose £8500 + The deposit !!

Get them to pay you for your bike, then put the money in the bank. Then when yours arrives, pay in full. Even if they give you a loan bike, that remains theirs, so if they go belly up, you'll have to give it back.

No dealer would give you a bike and say "pay us for it in a month", so why should you?

Theres some sense in what nutty has suggested however I really doubt they'll do that (in fairness you could just change your mind get hit by a bus etc etc). My best guess is they're giving you strong money for your versys and want it in stock before the book value falls in the new year in the hope they can move it on quickly or they could have it underwritten elsewhere and again the underwriter would probably want it sooner rather than later.

I'm sorry if my previous post has given you additional cause for concern, in all honesty I've dropped bikes off months before the deal has been finalised without issues. If I were in your shoes I would pop along to the dealer and explain that in principle you have no problem dropping the bike off early but mention the concerns you have voiced on here - they may suggest something but to be honest I can't think what that maybe apart from reducing the part ex value to an appropriate level for when they receive the new bike/take into stock the part ex.

Ask them to give you the agreed value of your bike less say £1k as a deposit on the new AT. They go belly up you lose £1k .(less in reality if the pix value is strong) ..... You walk away from the deal and they have an extra £1k against the Versys to offset the strong trade in they gave you. :nenau

Get a receipt in writing that the bike remains your property and all funds from sale. The receiver will give you your bike back if it goes bankrupt as they need written proof the bike is customer owned. Their were various problems like this when a local to me bike shop went bankrupt.

It's definitely a far better looking bike than the current GS/GSA. Shame about the chain but perhaps too much of a compromise off road for Honda.

That sounds nice.

I saw the one at the NEC looked good too. Not so much the luggage though. That spoiled the whole bike.

That luggage was a set of Hepco&Becker prototype (allegedly) kit. Hondas own topbox seemed better and I was mildly disappointed they didn't have their own panniers on show. I did ask where it was and was told it simply hadn't arrived in the UK.

Those H&B panniers were appalling. I don't think they would even last a trip to Tesco let alone a decent trip and they would have been better off having none at all. I talked to a sales guy about it and he was mildly embarrassed!!

I was helping out on the Stahlkoffer stand and he took three advanced orders for the AT. Proper tough kit and will be a whole lot cheaper than the factory stuff I bet.

£465 (plus locks possibly) for the Honda panniers.

From the pictures I've seen of the Honda panniers, they mount something similar to the BMW ones. If I decide to buy panniers, that would swing it I think as theyll not need racks.
