Africa Twin is coming

long steep sandy hill with a stop in the middle or a short slope with inertia to get you up and two helpers at the top to make sure you don't fall over :P

It is a trials bike section......even pro riders have their minders. ;)

It's all just a bit of fun and not really intended to be a who's got the biggest cock fight. :aidan

Merry Christmas...:friday

just pulling your chain :beerjug: Merry Christmas all :jager

I must admit I really like it in white. The big 50 for me in 18 months time. Maybe it will be time for me to buy my first ever new bike. Or maybe an ex demo or one with 500 miles that someone with more money than sense bought first..........:nenau

Very encouraging, especially as I don't take pillions. :thumb2

Can't get the picture right way up....:blast

And Bike seem to like it,especially the DCT :

Plus :

It sounds like exactly the bike I thought it would be.It carries it's weight well,is perfectly fuelled, and is just what I'm looking for to put the 950SE into semi-retirement !

The Bike verdict says it all !!

Better than a GS ? Yes,if you want to leave tarmac. No 1000cc bike should be this cosseting off-road.But if you need the BMW's extra 30bhp,the Africa Twin probably isn't for you.DCT option ? Yes.

Sorted !!! And something like the TAT definitely beckons !! Who's coming ?

And I've read a wee rumour that Honda are lowering the price of the heated grips by £100ish from dealer feedback. :beerjug:

Why does something like the TAT beckon with the purchase of the new AT?

What does it have for a trip like that over your lovely SE with its big tank which is probrabley the better bike for a trip like that

You'll be the first to the top of that Ostrich Lookout on the Bangor carriageway :aidan

Because I would probably trash the SE as it's a tip toe bike for me even at 6'1".And it's still in very good nick and is a keeper. It can't be replaced very easily. So I'd rather not wreck it.
The AT sounds like it will be much more manageable for someone like me who hasn't done a huge amount of off roading apart from a bit of motocross in the Enduro class on EXC450/250F and a bit of offroading in Brittany. The DCT seems to get rave reviews everywhere

But I'm hoping to go part time in 2017 and then will have a month off every third month so can see myself hopefully shipping something like the AT to the US and then use it a few times when I'm off for a month before shipping it back.

a month of every 3rd month that sounds wonderful - all you need is an AT with all the nice bits to fly to different destinations, our go around the world 1 month at a time :D

I can certainly see myself trying to do the TAT and then ride up to Alaska, leave bike in storage,go back and ride down the coast.Eventually get to S America in either 1 month or probably 2 ,leaving the bike somewhere again and fly it and me home from Buenos Aires. No idea how it works with insurance etc but it must be doable.

Arsey I'm doing the TAT at the end of August, I'll video as much as possible, possibly post some of it on here.
I managed to get a GPx route of the TAT the only problem was it was east to west I'm going the other way, I've spent some time reversing the route, just counting down the time I'm off that's on the 5th may as heading across Russia and the stans first

Oh, just thought I'd show what Honda gave those who had pre-ordered the AT at the NEC launch.

Just need the bike now. :thumb2

Happy new year to all too.....:aidan

Translated from French, so not quite proper English. But it gives you an idea.

In addition to rolling and compare motorcycles, motorcycle substation applies also to check some data as the average consumption in actual use, but also the weight fully fueled announced by the manufacturers or the power and torque values . So we spent the new Honda CRF 1000 L Africa Twin Rig (Type MI System, roller), to verify the data announced by Honda and also to check if the power and torque curves correspond to the felt on road.

CRF 1000 L africa twin vilo

With 100 horsepower helpful, the twin of the Africa shines Accreditation
The all-new parallel twin 998 cm3 Honda Africa Twin, does not exceed 100 horsepower on paper. Honda engineers wanted it so, they relied on the approval, engine responsiveness and technical consistency with the DCT transmission optional double clutch. We were able to move Rig standard version, conventional gearbox. Note that our borrowing motorcycle showed less than 300 km on the odometer. Nevertheless, the Honda Africa Twin 2016 still reached 103.3 horsepower at 7809 rev / min and torque of 10.8 kgm at 5858 r / min (values measured at the crankshaft). To compare with manufacturer's data: 95 horsepower at 7500 rev / min and 98 Nm at 6000 r / min. The measures identified Rig are fairly faithful to the official data. Moreover, the curves also correspond closely to those raised by Honda. We retain the linearity curves (power and torque), a sign of an optimized filling, without hollows or holes in acceleration.

Repeats are also very convincing and Honda block is distinguished by its high reactivity in the throttle opening: It is quick and takes anywhere without being cutesy. Shortly before 4500 rev / min, a slight - very slight - troughs remark on the curve. It corresponds to the stack approval rev range and Honda had to take it into account during engine development because this lightweight dish is as discreet as the curves handlebar hands. Note finally that the extension of this motor turns somewhat attenuated at high speed (after 7500 rev / min). Given the general shape of the curves and the health of this midrange engine, Honda could probably fill more this block at the draw. This is probably the case for a future model that will inherit this engine. A sportier bike? or super Deauville 1000 cm3? why not.
