Mark, what makes a bike feel special for you ?

Difficult to put my finger on that but I didn't wish I could take it home after my ride. I tend to change bikes quite frequently (apart from my 1100) and I always have several at any given time.
All the hype leading up to the bikes release was inferring there was something special about the AT. Maybe I was expecting too much, but it didn't light my fire at all. Off road competence on a bike of its size and weight is of no interest to me. If I wanted a bike to embark on a trip with a lot of off road I would go for something smaller. Simon Pavey I ain't. As said, all these things are subjective.

FWIW, I have had a number of different Hondas (cbr's, vfr's and a 900 hornet) as well as 3 X 1200 gs's and a Ducati and have an AT on order, I am really looking forward to getting to know it and reading shite from people who haven't rode it is grating a bit although I do understand that I don't need to read it but if certain people don't like it then that's ok but do they really need to tell the world that those that have ordered one are making a mistake when we are all different and hope for different things from our bike.

Daffy - I guess the counter to what you say above is that this is another trolling thread by Arsey basically saying that the AT is great and the GS is crap - again. This if I remember correctly is based on one test ride :comfort

I have got 2 mates who have ordered AT's and I will certainly have a go on one of them later in the year but in the meantime I am happy with my latest choice of the Tiger 800 XCx which is not "better" than my last GSA or a AT but just what I fancied buying this time round ;)

Hope you enjoy the AT :thumb

My Africa Twin, right now, is the best bike, right now, for me, right now.

:aidan

And that my friend, is the whole point

Glad you are enjoying it. I'm looking forward to riding one later in the year

Haha. You can choose a fat arse or a shit rack if you'd prefer.

What I find incredible is you are so insecure about your choice of bike you spend your Saturday evening trying to convince people you are "right" when the truth of the matter is you can only be right for you...nobody else.

You've only been on this forum a few months, you don't know me !!

I joined this forum a decade ago as I had been bitten by the GS bug.I subsequently recovered and moved on,but still like this place for the banter and winding up those that see GSs and women as OBJECTS of desire.:D

I simply started this thread as a bit of a laugh as I saw elsewhere that Bike mag had tested the AT against the GS and found the former to be the weapon of choice for most things. And there are very few threads on the AT !!!

And as for spending my night in,then yes I was holed up at Heathrow hotel trying to get rid of a nagging cold before flying out this lunchtime.

Having been riding bikes for over 35 years and having owned too many to remember (but 50+) I can safely say that the AT will be one of the best bikes I've ever owned.Should it not be then I will sell it.Simple.Or ride one of my other bikes.

PS

I think most of us stopped referring to 'racks' when we left school.

You make it WAY too easy pal.

Safe trip

Daffy - I don't take your comments personally so no offence caused at all buddy

However I will point out the I haven't criticised anybody for their choice of bike, nor said the AT, or any other bike for that matter, is better/worse than the other options. However a good number people on this thread have been making such claims, and I was simply pointing out that the answer to "which is the best bike?" can only ever be truly answered if it has the words "for me" bolted into the end of that question...because it's 100% subjective.

A mate from the south coast does circa 10,000 a year commuting and goes on at least 2 decent length tours in Europe every year. What bike does he ride? R1. He's had 3 in the last 10 years...and he loves every minute and every mile. Would it be my choice? No. Would it be most people's choice? I'm guessing not. Has he ridden tons of other bikes and got the means to change if you wanted to? Yes. Would I dream of telling him he's "got the wrong bike". No. I have told him the R1 wouldn't be my choice (after being asked for my opinion) but it's horses for courses as far as I'm concerned.

But like I said in a previous post on this thread. Without these people waving their cocks about and trying to convince everybody else (or as I suspect, themselves) that they made the right choice and ride "the best" bike my Saturday evening would have had a few less laughs. So I'm happy to sit back watch the mayhem unfold

And that's my point exactly, if your mates R1 is the best bike for him it doesn't mean it's right for me, neither does it mean that I should try to force my view on him or try to build public opinion against his choice.

I really enjoyed my GS's and would have another but what I liked about the original 1200 and the TC seems to be missing from LC, it is probably too refined, for me it has lost the almost agricultural feel.

My current ride is a Multistrada Pikes Peak which has the agricultural feel in spades but in a manic 150bhp sort of way, and whilst I love it, it isn't a keeper because it's just too highly strung and I know it will eventually cost me a fortune if I continue to add around 7,000 miles a year. The AT felt so similar to the MS albeit with much less power, that being said I was really surprised at the Honda, if I had to guess I would have said it was similar power to a TC GS, I found myself looking at 3 figures on the speedo more than once without realising. I guess this is testament to the engine and aerodynamics of the thing.

Anyway, whatever you ride enjoy and stay safe.

Exactly the point I have been trying to make. No right or wrong. Each to their own.

Re the LC I came from jap 4 cylinder bikes and it feels a lot more agricultural than they ever did. I guess your frame of reference is key.

You lot are all deluded ..........

EVERYBODY knows the best adventure bike ever made is the KTM 950 Adventure, even Charlie thought so! :D
