I always feel slightly out of control driving automatic cars, especially in slippery conditions.

So I'd dismissed the DCT as an option.

But after that, perhaps I'll treat myself to test ride.

I wouldn't buy an auto car without a tiptronic box. In full auto, you're right - sometimes a car can run away with you, I often notice cars braking unnecessarily on say, downhill sections and areas of a road where I would want to tighten the car up a bit as I run in to something. So the autos I drive, I mostly (like pretty much always) drive in manual sport so that I still have control over my gear selection.
Honda have seen sense to add that manual option to their dct box ... And that's probably the only setting id use ...

My thoughts are no motorcycle is 'born' with a soul, they're just a collection of parts.

Soul builds in a bike through years of interaction and challenges both whilst riding and mechanical evolution, they become like the dog you've had for 10 years .... you know each others every move.

It's more difficult for most modern bikes to develop that soul not least because they're fuel injected and pre programmed electronically but also people don't keep them long enough, either because they're just a throw away toy or because the owners are simply incapable of real mechanical interaction.

As far as the shared challenges go, well they're very much diluted by so many.

Bang on. When I see my mate on his red 59 GSA I still hanker after ex GSA. Having not spend much time on the new one it is a struggle to get to know each other. I did take it apart the other day for cleaning which is a necessary for the bonding process. Anyway...

I had a look at the bike at the NEC. Fancy it but don't think the missus will make much of it. The spec sheet says heavy so that was a disappointment. Though re-engineered Varedero because that was a top heavy machine with a good engine. The stripes suit the machine. Despite what I think it still has an appeal to me. No to read the rest of the tread.

He said the DCT is crap and it couldn't pull away without wheel spinning, they imported a manual one for the wheelie shots, and he was that underwhelmed by it he refused to get up off the floor, LOL

Interesting to hear all the reviews and see the great pics.

On the DCT - sounds very compelling and can see just how great it is. One question tho - when riding off road, I rely on being able to dip the clutch to quickly kill the power when things are about to go wrong, or when you're crossing a rut, or a tree root. What would one do on the AT?

You'll not need to close the throttle as you will be a riding God on the AT.....

So why bother buying a DCT?

If I'm going to have to manually change the gears to retain some kind of "control", I might as well carry on using my left foot.

I confess, I was not convinced about a quick shifter until I spent 100 miles or so on a K13... and I was pretty impressed. I can only assume that it gives you more direct control and, in some instances, will make life easier. I can imagine certain situations when I've screwed up, and being able to change down quickly with the flick of a thumb could get me out of a hole, perhaps even literally. Then there's the side effect - it's one less thing to get caught in a rut!
