Africa Twin test ride

Did this all start when you discovered aperture priority? :D

Actually Cockus Dickus I spent the first three months deliberately using it in full manual so I'd learn ! I use shutter and aperture priority now though .... :comfort

(That's why they were so shit in the early days ... !!)

I reckon that Honda have got the AT as wrong as they got the VFR1200, but time will tell - there will be a rush of people who have fallen for the hype (just like all new bikes) and then it will all become just a bit so-so. They should have simply modernised the old AT in the same way that they should have just modernised the Blackbird.

There comes a time with any machine when it's time to put it to bed and start afresh. The VFR is a bloody good bike - the engine in it is awesome and (again) the tiptronic box option in that is very good.

Yamaha have tried your tac with the FJ .... even today it still feels like a 20 year old design .... :thumb2

I agree that the VFR1200 is a good bike but does it sell? No not really and I suspect that the AT will go the same way because it is not really an AT, just being hyped up as one.

I think the VFR isn't selling because the market has shifted away from big sports touring bikes. Blackbird? k1300 (monster engine in that one) .... no body wants those any more ... :thumb2

Can I suggest you ride a new AT before telling everybody how it can't work and it's too heavy for skinny tyres etc.Currently you are talking out of your anus.

I think Honda have got it bang on.It looks stunning, especially in tricolour, the weight disappears as soon as you lift it off the sidestand, the whole feel of the bike is wonderful, and the DCT is supposedly very good, especially offroad.Honda haven't chased power figures, they haven't made a bike look like a caricature of itself..........I seriously doubt many GS owners (especially newish ones) getting the thinking behind the AT.What Honda have done is created a very well balanced bike with serious torque and sensible power and adorned it with wonderful suspension and handling.

I've loved the feel of a bike with 21/18 wheels, having had KTM Adventure 950S and then SuperEnduro for the last 12 years.
I've never even ridden a DCT bike but my favourite playground is the Alps and anything that let's you concentrate more on the view and a tad less on the riding is a bonus in my book.

Time will tell if the AT is a success, but the road test blew me away and I'm chuffed I ordered a DCT bike a while back as it seems another impulse buy will pay off.

One thought that popped into my head when I was out today on the demo bike......the balance, the way it was so assured in the corners (with it's skinny front wheel), the wave of torque as it drove from bend to bend.....reminded me of my 12GS, but slightly nicer in every way.

Hope to get a spin soon but hopefully my actual bike might arrive before that:thumb2
