Africa advice please

In April 06 I am heading off to the Sahara via Portsmouth - Bilbao and Morocco but am having difficulty in choosing the right tyres. Three of the five bikes going with me are sportsbikes which will limit their ability....but I want my 1100GS to be prepared for virually anything as I intend going deep in. Will Conti TKC80s be good on the tarmac or will they wear out too quickly. I currently have Metzler Tourances on which have handled pretty much every surface I have come across. I see from the site that plenty of you have done this trip so your advice would be much appreciated. I am not cashed up enough to buy tyres which will only just last this 3500 mile trip, so this needs to be considered.

Don't get TKC 80s then because that's about all you get from the back one. BUT...I did a Morocco trip this year on TKC 80s and they're brilliant on dry tarmac, not so good when it's wet though :( If all the rest of your party are going on sportsbikes then you shouldn't be going places where they can't, you don't want to be alone in the desert with a big numb lump like a GS.
(just re-read your post, I see they're not all on sportsbikes. I would recommend the TKCs, they're cheap enough :thumb )
